Hello again!

The infographic below shows my ideal way of setting up the Pylon network of a Terraria world, taking into account the happiness of the NPCs I care most about.

PRE-HARDMODE

Forest

Guide, Merchant, Golfer, Zoologist

Nothing much to say here, everyone is pretty happy. Make sure to separate them into groups of 2, so you get the solitude bonus

Desert

Arms Dealer, Nurse, Pet

Again, pretty standard. As I will use this Pylon in a MP world with friends, and some of them may go Ranged, I thought the Arms Dealer is a good idea to keep happy, for cheap ammo. The Pet is just so that it counts as a "Town". With 3 or more NPCs, mob spawns are disabled (in some cases).

Underground

Tavern Keeper, Demolitionist, Pet

Again, both happy. The Demolitionist is actually very close to full happiness (for you bomb-throwing enjoyers).

Jungle

Dryad, Painter, Witch Doctor

The Jungle Trio! Nothing special here, they all get along, they all like the Jungle. The Painter is also very happy (for you arts and crafts lovers).

Snow (Underground)

Dye Trader, Goblin Tinkerer, Mechanic

One of the biggest changes from the original post (link). Originally, these 3 were set in the Underground/Cavern, for the Goblin loves those places. But, by doing it this way, we lose nothing and we make the Mechanic happier!

Ocean

Angler, Party Girl, Stylist

Contrary to popular belief, happiness affects the Angler! (idk exactly how, but it does). So, I try to make him as happy as possible, without the downsides. For more happiness for the Angler in Pre-Hardmode, you could swap the Demolitionist and the Stylist, making him happier but making the other 4 less happy. Not worth it in my case, but maybe there are some fishing freaks out there.

Aether (Shimmer)

Pet, Pet

Just for the Pylon. You could try 3 Pets to make it a town, idk how it affects the mob spawns tho.

Underworld

Clothier, Pet

Sorry enthusiasts, but this one is going to Hell. And a Pet to keep him company. Again, 1 more Pet maybe helps with the mob spawns.

NOTE:

I know you can get the Glowing Mushroom Pylon Pre-Hard Mode, but I find myself rarely, is ever, doing it.

HARDMODE

Forest

Cyborg, Stylist, Zoologist, Pet

Kind of a random arrangement, but everyone is happy!

The Pet is not needed, but by this time in the game, you would come across a lot of Pets, so I just put them with the separated NPCs to make them feel better (no, it doesn't affect their happiness, but mine :D).

Desert

Nurse, Arms Dealer, Steampunker

Classic three-way.

Underground

Tavern Keeper, Demolitionist, Pet

Basically the same, but you could try to put them in an Underground Hallow, as it makes the Tavern Keeper happier.

Jungle

Dryad, Painter, Witch Doctor

Nothing changed.

Snow (Underground)

The same, but hey look! Santa Claus is here! For a short while…

Ocean

Angler, Party Girl, Princess, Pirate Captain, Pet

Very happy Angler. I don't think it's max, but close enough.

Aether (Shimmer)

Clothier, Pet, Pet

Look who escaped Hell? And got 2 new friends?

Underworld

Tax Collector, Pet, Pet

Kinda ironic.

Glowing Mushrooms

Guide, Truffle, Pet

Like the Jungle trio or the Mechanic-Goblin duo, I feel like they always belongs together.

Hallow

Golfer, Wizard, Merchant

Wizard is at max happiness! Good for me, I like mage and I need them mana potions. The downside? Golfer is miserable, as he hates the Merchant. If you guys prefer golfing, you can put the Golfer with the Zoologist, making them both happier. The Wizard still remains pretty happy, just don't forget to put a Pet to replace the Golfer.

And that's it! Hope this helps some players! As some of you might have guessed, this was inspired by this post.

And also, tons of thanks to the guys who gave me advice in the first post u/DislocatedLocation, u/Tiamat-86, u/Baron_Scyths, u/Competitive_Table_65, u/Sirsir94 and everyone else who took time out of their day to help me and give their feedback!

Thanks, have a good one!

    Which npcs are max discounts? That might be a dumb question but I think not every single npc can have the best discount possible right?

    Why not have the truffle live alone? The guide must live in the forest, and the truffle must suffer.

  3. Thanks! I will keep this for my next playthrough, for sure!
    In fact, this evening I’m starting the first 1.4.5 run together with my friends (MBV included). I’m very excited.

    Although I’m not sure what biome I will pick for my house I was thinking Underground or maybe space so I could jump to anywhere on the map with an umbrella. I will see.

    Anyway, thanks again.
    You are awesome, internet stranger.

    If I could, I would give you Reddit Silver, but I’ve fallen on hard times since my wife left me and took the kids. But I still have Terraria.

    🙂

  4. Snow and Underground can (and should) be swapped around because the Shimmer is very useful to have near the Goblin Tinkerer, and none of the other NPCs will be taking huge amounts of coins.

  5. My 1.4.5 setup is:

    * Forest: Merchant
    * Forest (25-120 blocks away): Zoologist, Golfer
    * Mushroom: Guide, Truffle, Clothier
    * Aether: Tavernkeep, Demolitionist, [pet]
    * Hallow: Party Girl, Wizard, [pet]
    * Snow: Steampunker, Cyborg, Santa Claus, [pet]
    * Ice Caverns: Tax Collector
    * Ice Caverns (25-50 blocks away): Goblin Tinkerer, Mechanic
    * Ice Caverns (in-between other two): Princess
    * Desert: Nurse, Dye Trader, Arms Dealer
    * Jungle: Dryad, Painter, Witch Doctor
    * Ocean: Stylist, Angler, Pirate
    * Underworld: [pet], [pet], [pet]

    With this arrangement, Goblin Tinkerer and Mechanic are at max happiness, and everyone else is at moderate to high happiness (lowest shop discount: 11%, average shop discount: 17.48%). My Underworld pylon is staffed entirely by town slimes because I didn’t want to put any “real” NPCs down there.

  6. I have completley ignored happiness since it was introduced. Thanks for this but i will continue to make my NPC’s suffer
