I noticed through testing that hitting the root of the tree (and possibly any other non-leafed part) she did not drop any Gemcorns. But I accidentally adjusted her to the top of the tree when moving around and suddenly I was getting like 4 corns for every gem, basically giving me 500% more gems than I was having her hit the trunk.
Then just go shimmer those gemcorns into the gems. Drop rate is really high hitting that top tuft of the tree with the branches coming out.

You can also get tons of gems and gemcorns and stone by getting the shimmer infused fertilizer to make tall gem trees

This is because the leaf part of the gem tree has a higher chance of dropping gem corns and gems.
You’ll notice that you get a lot less from gem trees when there isn’t a leafy bit at the top of the tree.
It’s also true of branches, they drop more gems and gem corns
