I've been wanting to try Terraria for a long time, and I finally got around to buying it. So, does anyone have any tips for my first world? I set it to classic mode.
Anything that says “material” in it’s description is used to craft items. Try talking to the guide about anything interesting.

there’s a hair under the list that is just like ssj 3 goku’s hair
and never use the fandom wiki, the terraria wiki gg is better

First time play I’d recommend classic character instead of mediumcore (so no dropped items on death)

Build many homes with chairs and tables. You’ll understand why when you do. Also expert difficulty has some exclusive boss loot if you end up deciding to try that

Don’t get so caught up wondering if you can that you forget to wonder if you should.

If you ever find a building with an old man NPC walking around inside make sure to take a look around and explore! Glhf✌️

Here’s a real helpful tip. If you’re in a cave and you cant see the bottom when you place torches. Use rope to go down instead of just full sending it… now if only I would follow my own advice

I’ve been playing for a very very long time. Here’s some general tips and guidance I give everyone.
– if you’re struggling on a boss, try crafting some potions or placing a campfire.
– exploring the surface is as important as exploring the caves early game.
– far from spawn on one side of your world there is a large, foreboding structure. Have a peak inside, you can find some fun items.
– build a lot of houses, but ask NPCs about who and where makes them happy.
– don’t feel restricted to using one class of weapons. It’s easier to maximise damage for one class at a time, but switching your loadout or just flat multiclassing is totally valid as long as you’re having fun.
– you’ll find a strange biome underground. I’d recommend making a small mushroom farm in it to stock up for later in the game to craft something called shroomite.
– in hard mode in the previously mentioned biome, a worm can spawn rarely. Fishing with it in the ocean gives you some cool loot.
– once you have killed the goblins, explore the caves for a bit. You might find something new.
– if slimes start falling from the sky, kill as many as you can.
This game is really fun and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do (:

There are 4 “classes” ranger, mage, summoner, and melee. You are not hard locked in any of them and can switch in the game, so what you think is fun

If you’re struggling with any part of the game, don’t be afraid to try new strategies and loadouts. Terraria is a game that gives you a lot of freedom and agency, and it’s the most fun when you go out of your way to try new things.
And of course, have fun!

for an NPC to move into a house, it needs a chair, table, and a light source.

Interact with the guide instead of using a wiki on first playthrough imo.
Surprises you more imo and makes you explore for information for things.

The wiki is your best friend. This game does not explicitly explain most things, including how to summon bosses.

The guide actually gives some good advice for getting most NPCs to move in and for other progression stuff. And you can also check achievement descriptions for more information on bosses/events/items

Ignore wiki and videos unless you’re super stuck… and items with material in their info can be brought to guide to show what it can make and how
