I have always wanted this to be added, my muscle memory always makes me press esc when I want to pause and it just opens the inventory instead.
And turning on autopause isn't a solution either because this restricts you from doing things like using items without them being in your hotbar.
The button in the bottom right corner of the inventory can stay as well.

It would definitely be nice as I don’t use autopause either. In the meantime I’ve just gotten used to alt+tab because the game pauses when unfocused.
I’d love to change it so ESC opens the pause menu and TAB opens the inventory. This would be great.
Real, i want tab for inventory and esc for pause, would be very nice
