Unfortunately, holding the keybind doesn't cause you to constantly dash quickly so you can move horizontally faster.
I don't actually use dashes (I'm a mount lover) so this doesn't really change how I play, but I know a lot of people will like this.

Finally I would MAYBE consider using dashes. Well… I am not a huge fan of them in general even with a keybind, but keybind was one of my issues, so I am more likely to use them now.
Never got why this was that big of a deal tbh, but I’m glad they give you the option of using either or both methods at the same time (UNLIKE what they did with whips…)
I find double tapping completely fine and can’t really think of holding a direction then pressing a different button feeling that great (especially when it just fires you into a crowd, that just sounds like the “I hate accidentally dashing even though I can right click the shield into a social slot” cope except it actually happens, and more than once a playthrogh)
Then again I don’t play modded where there’s more than TWO dash items so that’s probably why

After beating legendary getfixedboi summoner, double tap to dash is stuck in my muscle memory forever
Right time to relearn 10+ years of muscle memory. Solely because the shield of Cthulhu. Genuinely happy for this feature tho
for some reason, it shortens the cooldown between each dash significantly. buffering dashes with the keybind lets you dash WAY faster compared to just spamming left or right
So now it's a Megaman X Dash.
