1.21.1 Neoforge is clearly superior, just need the holdout mods to make it over the hump of getting to the better loader.

the mods on 1.20.1 are more versatile and better (tc7 will also release on 1.20 i believe) while vanilla 1.21.1 is straight up a better game. 20 has classics like TiC and Thermal Expansion while 21 natively supports java 21, has better accessibility, better vanilla content which most can be backported but usually no packs have any backport mods for some reason which is annoying af.
