They actually patched the ale to sand method. It was a thing until 1.4.4
If you have a mob farm, you can kinda afk-farm lava
You can buy anvil which shimmer into iron ingots that you can bulk-craft to buckets. Water duplication is still fairly easy and those water buckets can be shimmered into lava buckets
This method is way more bearable than duping lava
Watching you play has encouraged me to give this mode another chance and since that first episode I’ve built out several large islands for each biome with themed homes and fishing spots and barely touched skeletron or the underground biomes besides the underworld for lava and the basic caverns for some early items. It’s been a lot of fun learning to create all this stuff from nothing and taking my time with building, and despite wishing some aspects were a bit different I think it’s been super enjoyable.
Skyblock makes it 300 blocks for both desert and tundra biome, it's still 1500 for normal worlds
I used Always to Farm Sand with getting some antlion thingys with placing some Crimson Sand with crimson Sand Walls in the Caves, getting a sandgun. Combined with an ammo Reserve potion from Double-cod its probably the Most efficient way to Get Sand
If you ever intending to get every pet, you no longer can, as you didn't kill the Dungeon Guardian. (The head before you kill skeletron). It's always a niche thing but it's something your now locked out of. Unless there's a way I don't know of to get it back.
Build enough desert biome to spawn in an antlion then farm the sand it spits out. You do not need a full biome to get the antlion.
If you move the shimmer down to the underground you can set up a cavern pylon so you can teleport. Just make a basin to catch the shimmer directly below where your shimmer is and then mine out the bottom of your current shimmer pool and it will fall down to the cavern layer. Then set up some houses, get some npcs to move in and you will ça buy a pylon. Will save you a lot of time running back and forth in the future.
Shells from the ocean biome can be made into an item that can go into the extractor and you'll get sand. This matter can be slow though
You could shimmer lesser healing potions sold by the merchant for glass then sand
You can use the remaining sand for the ocean biome as well as underground desert. I think the 1500 was for the ocean biome but 1500 water blocks not sand, for sand i think it's 300 like the other biomes. Another way to get infinite sand you can make the sandgun and use the ammo box and ammo reserve potion then just shoot loads of sand at a wall with a torch underneath or let it fall and mine it up and your good to go. Also you can mine most of the obsidian at the shimmer puddle and use that for sand as well.
You can make the tiger climbing gear with both kinds of shoe spikes, right? You could also combine that with your frog leg for additional movement. Just a thought. Oh maybe make a sky lake fishing spot higher up from your island to get sky crates and maybe get the shiny red balloon as well as the lucky horseshoe.
One more thought, the demolishonist now sells freeze bombs at night which you can throw into water and get ice for an ice biome. Not sure if that's something you'll want to do but it's an option lol
