Arrow craft is very expensive, so most players either don't use bows at all or get their arrow needs from monster farming and infinity. However, bows are quite useful in the early hours of the game, but they are very expensive. Finding flint is a laborious task; wouldn't it be better to use iron ingots or iron nuggets instead?

Alternatively, Mojang should finally make a use for the fletching table and let us customize our arrows.
I can’t even remember the last time I crafted arrows, usually just make a mob farm early on and get them that way
I usually just buy them from fletchers.
Most players have way too many arrows just lying around from killing skeletonsÂ
Oh, you made me think they had added this. Yes, iron nuggets would be an obvious alternative recipe.
The main problem is the feathers. Getting feathers is too much RNG for the early game.
I get all my arrows from a skeleton farm tbh, since I use mending instead of infinity
The real problem is feathers, who wants to make a chicken farm? Flint you can practically AFK with a stack of gravel in your offhand and a shovel. Flint and feathers together is truly annoying though.
Get them from skeletons drops or the (relatively) new upgraded arrow trades from bartering with piglins. But yeah, I agree, the craft is absolutely ludicrous and ridiculous. They should just FINALLY add a use for fletching tables…
That’s why the infinity enchantment exists. You can also sell gravel to the flethcher with an emerald and they’ll give you flint in return. Using a fortune shovel with cause nearly 100% flint drops gravel as well. I think it’s short sighted to say most people don’t us bows.
Are you new to the game? By far one of the cheaper items, and crafting isn’t even the only way to get them.
why craft arrows?
just hijack a local villager that has no job, craft a fletching table, and boom
arrows
So you are forced to get infinity by interacting with an annoying system to stop interacting with an annoying system.
fletcher npc
Once you build a mob farm and get an infinity bow you realize how absolutely useless arrows are. I don’t think I have crafted an arrow in the last decade.
I use flint for mine.
Or make feathers drop from chickens and parrots like armadillo scutes. I can deal with gathering flint. Just need a fortune 3 shovel. Then, every gravel block drops flint.
Fletcher literally buys 32 sticks for 1 emerald and sells 16 arrows for the same price…
But it’s true that, if playing without the help of villagers as a self imposed challenge, arrows are a bit of a pain to craft, chicken farms take time, and digging gravel is just plain boring.
Personally, I believe they should make the following change which would make it A LOT BETTER:
Gravel Block -> If mined with a Shovel, drops Gravel Block 100% of the times.
Gravel Block -> If mined with a Pickaxe, drops Flint 100% of the times.
This would make it a MUCH MORE RELIABLE block to make elevators from levels above, while making Flint farming a lot more time efficient.
As for Chickens, they should make it so that they drop at least 2 feathers per kill like, come on, the whole thing is covered in feathers!
No, iron is too rare now, because of copper.
yeah I honestly can’t remember the last time I crafted arrows
at a point for a brief update window they did use iron ingots but that was deemed too expensive (remember, pre-gigantic caves era) and was thusly reverted to flint, as iron nuggets didn’t exist at the time.
and honestly i think just getting arrows from skeletons is, fine, i don’t even use infinity cause i end up with arrows filling my inventory from them.
Well because I almost always have a skeleton farm immediately after starting a new world, I always have unlimited arrows by hour 5. I usually stack 3 double chests of them and throw the rest in lava
I spend like 10-20 mins breaking a stack of gravel down to flint every time I start a new world and never have to bother refilling bc a I just save it for when things might get risky and arrows refill pretty passively when you use a shield on a skeleton. Still the iron nugget is a neat idea at least until you get fortune on a tool.
Have you carved, tipped and fletched real wood arrows before? It’s really fuckin’ hard.
We have it good these days with pre-fletched carbon or aluminum arrows that just have screw-on tips.
I use infinity
just get a fletcher villager. Sell sticks for emeralds and buy arrows.
I see a ton of people talking about making arrow farms, I don’t even do that, arrows are extremely cheap from fletchers, and I always have fletchers to sell sticks to. A couple stacks of sticks will get you a stack of arrows, and sticks aren’t exactly hard to get.
if you want an actaul answer why they chose flint instead of iron nuggets, its history.
iron nuggets were added 1.11 (2016) while the flint recpie for arrows was added just after 1.0. (2009)
which means for 7 years of real life time, the recepie was always flint. and they did not want to really change it this soon after 1.9 (the combat update) that changed combat mechanics and generated a bunch of push back from the community.
so it just kinda stayed the same, who know they might change it to that eventually. but its been the same recepie for 17 years strait, so they would probs be more lilky to add an alliterative way.
maybe using iron nuggets and sticks in the fletching table or something, might work as a nice mechanic and also allow things like copper arrows/potion arrows if they see fit.
It’s not that hard to make a skeleton or a chicken farm
I think Mojang should actually give the fletching table a use and let us craft or customize arrows in a cheaper manner
I just buy stacks and stacks of arrows from villagers
1. get a stack of gravel
2. stack the gravel under you until you are standing on top of a giant pillar of gravel
3. appreciate the view
4. mine the gravel underneath you and gather up the flint
it’s super easy, you can get a stack of flint in a few minutes
