I don’t like the nether portal animation and find it hard to see, so I always quickly move one block on the other side, but this time it kills me. I’m on bedrock on PS5

  1. If you’re opening a new portal, hold crouch as soon as you reach the other side. You can then sneak to the edge of the obsidian, which is just far enough away from the portal blocks to clear the nausea effect so you can see your surroundings.

  2. Crouch when going through, blocks in hot bar to place on the lava-side. Create a wall on that side in the future, so you can’t exit on the lava side by accident. Alternatively, build a floor/fill in lava with gravel and create a safe area

first trip to the nether put your stuff in a chest in the overworld and if everything is alright go back for your stuff

  4. On top of all the other suggestions: Don’t build a nether portal at low Y-levels. Better to get a portal up in the roof of the Nether than to have it appear at sea level.
