edit: also the 2 easiest ways to remove water in survival are sponges like youre doing, or using falling blocks like sand or gravel, i dont think you can use concrete powder cause it turns into regular concrete when it hits water

Unfortunately I don’t know of one, the only way I could think of to speed this up is to dry the sponges by placing them in the Nether, if you’re not doing that already

there is, you can make flying machines that clear out water

Place the sand so that it makes 5×5 sections of water instead of these long trenches. Yes you spend more time placing sand but it’s makes the sponges much more effective

Just use fill commands. So easy.
I removed the water of my trenches with this a modular sweeper.
