I get why people want an End Update — it’s iconic and tied to the final boss. But I feel like the End already has a strong identity with End Cities, Elytra, Shulkers, etc.
An Aether-style update could:
Add a brand-new sky dimension with floating islands
Introduce new ores, tools, and progression paths
Bring unique mobs (flying creatures, divine bosses, sky villagers?)
Add vertical exploration mechanics
It would feel like discovering Minecraft all over again.
What do you think? End Update or Aether Update?

maybe a hot take but I definitely don’t want a forth dimension, even it came after the end update. it would be such a big change in minecraft’s core identity, and I’m not saying that out of nostalgia, I’m saying it from a game design perspective
Aether just looks much more fun and inviting to explore and build in than the End…but why not both? Eventually
I think it could happen given how the aether developer works at mojang now. Getting the rights would not be an issue. I think the community would find a way to be angry. “Why make this update, we could just download the mod!” I’d love to see it though.

Have both. I really like this but two issues. Vertical exploration is ruined by the elytra. Secondly, if it was water and glowstone it would too easy to access. I think having to light an ancient city portal is cool because it is like a dark scary area in the depths protecting a divine area in the sky.
I think I’d rather have something like the realm of the hosts or something beyond the warden portal before the aether.
Getting a new dimension using the portal in ancient cities would be cool or maybe a portal to the overworld back in time when sniffers roamed.

For one, this is just directly copying off another mod that even one of the main developers of, who now works on Vanilla, doesn’t want added to the main game. Also, this would actually take away from the End’s identity, as we’d now have 2 dimensions themed around floating islands
Maybe Mojang could reference players failing to make the portal because they were too young to realize how mods work in a painting or something, but leave the actual Aether out of Vanilla
Update the End first before considering a 4th dimension
Pass for now. The end is so lack luster right now to the point a lot of people don’t even go there.
15 years later and people are still hoping for an Aether update 😭🙏
I always thought the Aether should be part of the base game. It fits in so well with the current game and items so it makes sense and it’s really cool.
