So naturally I have metric gorillion of chests in my base’s basement..
And even though I deliberately marked them with frames items (general purposes like, ores/bars/blocks/weapons/nature or monster materials etc) now it stil sometimes can be quite hard to find needed things because there is accumulated just so much of everything..
And like, see how we have a way to find exact item by typing in its name in crafting menus?
This also should be an option for your chests, let’s be real.. Let alone times when I misplace some things in wrong chests.. Makes me sit on base before departing somewhere even longer..

You can name chests too btw and you’ll see the name on hover
Name your chests and categorize items. Unfortunately there are no other way. I don’t even know how a search bar would even work.
Thanks to crafting from nearby chests I don’t even need to do categorize until at least after hardmode.
A trick I use if the item I’m searching is used as a material, I simply craft it and then shimmer it.
Keep some shimmer and a workbench near by. Craft something with the stuff you want and de-craft it. I started doing that for anything that has walls or platforms. I store them as walls and re-craft full blocks when I want them
Being more organized labelling chests and item frames can take a while but are very worth it on the long term. But holy shit i was moving my storage from one base to another and i didn’t have the same patience as before so everything is a mess now. I really miss a way to search for items sometimes

If you are committed to having this much storage (which is way more than you need), you should just download the magic storage mod.
It basically just creates a database storage system where you can put in everything and then search whatever you want and even craft without taking the items out.
Abiotic factor has an item you can craft with mid game materials that you can type into and get full stacks or 1 , or split the stack from any of the nearby chests. It is fabulous 👌
