This was more of a shower thought than an actually thought out post so I'll add/remove things in this post if I missed something or put something in that isn't canon. I'll also be addressing the wizard last because he's a somewhat different case than the two above.
Linus-I feel like he'd be the one least likely to be a marriage candidate (aside from the already married villagers). He's extremely attached to his way of living and refuses to become roommates with you at a high heart level. There is a possibility in future updates that he'd like to live with you or just living on the farm in the tent at 10 hearts, but it was pretty obvious that he wouldn't have become a marriage candidate. If he was, he'd need all of his character rewritten and wouldn't make him the character he is.
Willy-Willy is somewhat likely to become a marriage candidate but his focus on fishing deters that. He shows you a lot of respect, especially if you catch lots of fish, but, idk if this is headcanon or not, he's incredibly attached to the ocean and maybe even his shop. It'd be hard for him to leave.
The Wizard-Rasmodius is kind of a hard character to grip because he doesn't talk much until higher hearts and seems like he wants the player to go away most of the time. I will admit his hearts are lacking and only go up to four in terms of cutscenes, and he seems to think of the player as a sort of apprentice. He also might be reluctant to remarry after his ex wife. I think there is a pretty good chance of The Wizard becoming a marriage candidate because of how sought after he is in the fandom and CA is very aware of it.
Side note-people who wanted Morris, Gunther, etc. or any married character as a candidate.. sorry 😭 I absolutely understand if people want the NPC characters who aren't townsfolk/Sandy/the Dwarf/Krobus to be more fleshed out and able to get hearts with, but marriage would be a long time coming if they ever were. My most unrealistic hope for this update is that we get at least mini portraits of the traveling sellers/sellers on Ginger Island like the Bookseller and the traveling cart lady. I wanna know what they look like closer up.

I’m aware of this but I also like their personalities way more than the other bachelors haha.
I wanted Willy cause I love the fishing mini game, and reading this; I think it would be kinda cool if you could develop a relationship with him as your fishing level rises. And once your level is maxed you can date or marry him over a mutual love of fishing (I know thats a bit much for stardew)
But you also raise fair points, I almost always gloss over the fact the wizard was married before. But maybe I wanna be a witch 🤣
After you get married, if you talk to Willy, he has a line about how he prefers to be married to the sea.
(Edit, I think I misremembered this one. He says something like “don’t forget to make time for fishing”.
wish i could upvote this 100x. only thing i contest is my most unrealistic hope for 1.7 is a better guide system for perfection and bundles

I want to marry Linus. He can live in his tent. I can live in my farm house. On days when we are feeling sociable and the weather is great we can wander the forest and do a bit of foraging. If its cold and sleeting we can curl up with tea near my fireplace. And when we are not so much feeling sociable we can work on our own projects for a few days until we feel like curling up with tea again or hanging out with a fishing line on a bank by the mountain like in the sun.
Linus can live in a tent in my farm I’ll make him a special area so he feels like he’s back in the forest.
I was 100% on the Gus train because he doesn’t have much personality and I wanted to get to know him better. I feel like Clint is already decently fleshed out in his heart events so I’m kinda sad to see him getting even more attention.
My dream situation for Linus is kinda like how we roommate Krobus, but instead we simply let him set up his tent in the spouse area. He never goes inside your house because he doesn’t want too but allowing him to move allows us to ease the troubles his lifestyle faces (the rock throwing and spray paint incidents). And the 13 heart event is a really stormy night where it’s extremely unsafe for Linus to be outside so we get the Wizard to cast a spell on his tent which adds a layer of magic (a visual pattern appears on the tent from this event onwards) to protect him showing we truly care for him and respect his decisions but can’t just stand their and watch him die.
It’s just that in this game the romanceable characters are the ones you are able to get close to and actually make an impact in their lives. The folks who want those other characters to be romancable would be just as happy if there was a “best friend” relationship track they could pursue with Willy, Linus, or the Wizard

I have a strong dislike for the playersexual mentality, it’s ok for there to be characters that just aren’t interested in being with you.
I wanted Gus.
the dialogue you’re showing here is no more rude or stand-offish than shane or haley in the beginning. if those two can develop to a place where they want a romance with the farmer, i don’t see why any of these characters can’t

I have nothing against a slowburn with the wizard. If it takes ten years to learn the elements AND show him that he can love again and do it better this time around, then so be it!

We’ve seen Shane’s initial stuff and look how that worked out. Though I am told in one of the older versions he actually wasn’t a candidate.
But that’s all the more evidence that we never know what could happen.

You made me think, what if instead of being roommates/marrying the wizard he moves to the farm to learn more about the junimos and we become his apprentice! Of course it’s mostly just flavor text same as the others but still a cool idea
Just cuz the wizard is divorced and busy does not mean he doesn’t want to remarry.
