You did get it, but still missed lol. Next time turn on your grid, and aim your cursor just slightly above the lower side of the u shape. If you have one bucket of water and no other empty buckets, you can click in one spot to place and pick up the water. It's a little touchy, but once you get the timing down, it becomes way easier. Or you can get stuff from the mechanic to build water dupers

I swear this doesnt work anymore in 1.4.5, i used to be able to just hold down on the mouse button above the side of the "u", but I cant pick it back up most of the time anymore
