The last few days, I've been thinking about how I struggle to start a world hitting the ground running; either I lawn out and feel no connection emotionally to the progress I'm making & get met with the inevitable entropy of it all – or I do make a home I like, but when it comes time to actually tech up & expand I can't fit it in or figure out how to keep my further constructions in harmony with the original.
But lately I've been mulling over in my head a hyper-simple formula for 1st-hour level base planning that may even be able to carry you on to lategame.
The idea is this. On opposite sides of a central point, have two areas; one for just whatever machines and enchanting tables & whatever else you need to plop down temporarily, which won't be *doing* something on idle. On the other side, have automated processes, intentional designs & long term systems like ore processing and food farms. 90 degrees over & attached to both, should be the storage sector; easily accessible at all reasonable angles, and organized with care so that at the very least everything has it's place, and hopefully you always know where to look!
I'm hoping that by building this way, keeping good paths for easy movement, & keeping things decorated and looking nice, that I can keep all the major obstacles to motivation at a minimum, and have a nice time building.
What do you all think about this concept? Have you done similar? Criticisms? I'd love to hear your feelings on it. Thanks for the time! Hope everything is good & easy to understand.

I’m not a builder so I can’t offer any contribution other than that the idea sounds interesting
A bit small depending on what you’re doing, almost every tech mod will end up requiring a bit way more space
also, the temp machine thing is flawed *unless* you have the personality where you *do* clean up. Since the moment you plop something down and it works, it has the tendency of sticking there since moving it is a pain. Be advised
In terms of long term tech, I like the smaller disconnected “modules” approach. Like a barn and silo for auto food, a quarry looking thing for cobble gen, a waterfall that generates andesite alloy, etc. It’s a gigantic pain though, both in building and in transport
But a singular area with things constantly running like your is way more convenient, and should be easier to connect around
