Hello everyone, I am in my second year of the game and would appreciate some advice on how to obtain sufficient quantities of coal to begin making barrels. I have already unlocked the desert area and the mine, and I have a good yield from my farm, generating approximately 10 kG per day at the moment. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Go to the icy levels of the Mines and farm dust sprites (the little bouncing black fuzzy things), they drop good amounts of coal.

  2. * dust sprites in the mines
    * charcoal kiln from wood (including wood chipper to turn hardwood into wood)

  3. burglar ring, monster musk, Statue of the Dwarf King if you have it, then farm the shit out of the ice floors of the mines (40-69)

I usually spend a day cutting down trees and turning them to coal. Dust sprites after level 45 also work very well.

  5. There are also coal carts in the mines, interact with them and they’ll dump a bunch.

  6. BUY IT FROM CLINT.

Haha, what is the point of making money if you don’t use it? The money you’ll make back from the barrels will make it up in time.

I always take the double items from rocks ability.

I hate early game shortages on resources and you always have money later

My favorite way to get more coal than I’ll ever need is to drink monster musk and go through levels 40-69 over and over. Lots of dust sprites

  9. Clint sells it, tho it’s kinda pricey. Prospector at level 10 mining is really nice. The quarry cave has coal nodes, and I may be wrong but I think the mining mastery affects coal too, so you get extra.

  10. On a bad luck day use the elevator to go between level 45,55,65 and 0 in the mines leaving the floors you don’t see dust sprites. Going back to level 0 will reset the mines and respawn the dust sprits. Once you’ve killed 500 you can get the burglars ring from the adventurers guild which gives more loot when killing monsters. I also check levels 41,51 and 61 at least once to see if it’s a monster floor (no rocks just lots of monsters). Monster floors will be monster floors all day so you can continuously hit the same floor and kill the dust spirits again and again. If you have it unlocked also use monster musk for these mine runs. I can usually get several hundred coal doing this.

I know people have already said the quarry, but the quarry mine in particular has a side room full of coal nodes

If you have time: the ice floors of the mines. If you have money: buy it from Clint. If you have an exhausting amount of wood: charcoal kiln. If you want to min-max, you can use the kilns while looping the ice floors.

If you have ginger island, bomb the volcano. Even on bad luck days, I still get over 1000 coal

  14. Continually reloading floor 45,55,65 and then 61 of the mines, taking ladders only when you get them by chance from killing sprites or mining coal and immediately leaving when you cannot see dust sprites on the current floor is how I farm coal.

  15. Monster Musk + Burglar’s Ring + bad daily luck.

Spam levels in the Mines where Dust Sprites appear (I like level 65).

  16. Dust sprites are good, I’d also advise opening the quarry if you haven’t and going there with some bombs every 2 weeks or so
