Tag damage is supposed to be used with multiple whips to increase the damage of your minion so even if one weapon is better than the other you should still use it so that you can get more of the tag damage even if you have to swap at the multiple times
The star crash is actually really good, with a set of obsidian armor, and the feral claws, it hits fast, which sends more meteors, which makes it an extremely good option in my opinion, although i do agree with the vasculash and soulscourge opinion
The star craft one is crazy strong with Abigail. Especially if u fail to get fire cracker from wof. Used it for early HM with her and it was pretty good
I'm a starcrash advocate in this case because the lower tag damage is because of the whip effect being better at crowd control than the snapthorn, meaning that against a bigger group of enemies the starcrash will have way better dps. It can even be good for WoF's hungry, even though spinal tap is probably better
Starcrash is good with high damage summons because the damage from the meteors scales with the damage of the attack that triggered it. Snapthorn is better for everything else
No, nerfing would make the problem sooo much worse in this case the new whips was meant to solve a problem that the pre hard mode ones failed at solving and nerfing snapthorn would just make that problem worse and make it ass to play The real solution would be to buff the other whips either by just making them better but maybe the real problem mite just be all of pre hard mode
Realistically the snapthorn should be nerfed and other whips should be buffed cuz having no suitable upgrades or alternatives to the snapthorn makes pre-hard mode summoner feel boring
Honestly I feel like you can say this for a lot of the classes. I think the point of added in the other whips is to give players options instead of going to the jungle at the start of the game. You can argue that the blade of grass is the same effect or the jungle armor as well. The jungle is the hardest biome in the game and rewards players who venture into it early. It’s like fight Duke fishron early hard mode in a lessor effect.
Tried the crimson whip and immediately lost all interest in the summoner portion of the update. Think the corruption and crimson whips just need a status effect to bring it up in power or make it even remotely interesting. Maybe reduce your resistances and increase damage? Or decrease enemy resistances? idk its Kinda wild Snapthorn just gets poison AND Jungle's Fury buff, increasing attack speed by 12% for 3 seconds while whips in the same or arguably HIGHER progression tier just "exist"
So much like how the blade of grass is dtronger than the nights edge? I fail to see the problem, the jungle is meant to be the hardest pre boss location in the game besides… hell.
it isnt just the snapthorn, the whole jungle stuff needs a full rework as it shouldnt be possible to get some of the strongest weapons and the best mage armor all while being pre boss
The biggest benefit of the starcrash is that to my knowledge it works like a weaker Firecracker, the meteor does somewhere around 1.75x the damage of the summon that triggered it. Meaning its designed around slower hitting but higher damage summons, hence the low tag damage.
The meteors are the tag damage, they do a ton of damage, i think of it as the minions being able to attack with meteors :3c. Also people who grind for the best item off rip move too fast lowkey
In terms of the Soulscourge and Vasculash not being useful, you could make the same argument for every other Underground Jungle item. Why make Light's Bane when you could make Blade of Grass? Why make Demon Bow when you could get Boomstick? They're intended to serve as things you use to loot the Underground Jungle. Not everyone beelines towards there The Underground Jungle is an extremely dangerous place early game, you don't have to skip right to the loot from there.
The Starcrash also isn't reliant on tag damage. It's basically a Pre-Hardmode Firecracker — it's better with high damage summons, like the Imp Staff, due to it's multiplicative damage increase.
Starcrash is a pre-hardmode Firecracker. It's the best with single summons, aka Abigail pre-hardmode/early hardmode, Desert Tiger until Lunar Pillars, and Stardust Dragon for the rest of the game. If you're using traditional summons, the other whips are better. But for being a Wall Of Flesh drop that remains viable until Moon Lord? It's insane.
I used to hate on the starcrash but bro it melts with the hornet and imp staves each individual attack from your summons add a meteor best for single bosses but still does great overall and the whip helps with exploration

I really liked the Slime Whip gimmick that the tip ignites enemies. Wish we got more things like it on more useful weapons.

Tbh the summoner is broken altogether, mainly because people who play summoner do so because of skill issue.
A full whip only no summons run is possible and i say it's easier than any other runs without restrictions

They should give summoner an actual armor set before and after a boss. Since we don't have a set for the pre-boss, and our frist set is after QB.
i feel like they could have made it similar to the amazon yoyo, where its a solid in-between for both evil whips
