  1. I’ve played mods that allowed just that.

enjoy the way back to base with mobs having spawned everywhere

torches ate to prevent mobspawns. don’t underestimate that.

  2. You’d still need to lit your mine well, unless you wanna fight every time you go mining

Even just having a torch in the off hand and having that light up the player’s immediate area would be great.

I would still bring torches. When I light up the caves, for me it marks them as “explored”, and it prevents mobs spawning. Feels like I’m making progress and conquering an area.

I always carry a stack of logs and coal blocks in my main shulker box.

The fact that for a game this old we can’t even have a hand held light source is absolutely ridiculous. No, I dont wanna hear “night vision potion” thats a very lazy dev defending answer. I WANT something that lights up the area that I can wear or hold and not worry about it running out or having to get more materials for another batch of potions.

  6. What’s funny is one of the rewards for doing the achievements on bugrock is a helmet with a torch on it as a cosmetic option. So they have them designed already. They just refuse to add anything to the game that would actually improve it.

That would be neat, but it still runs the risk of spawning mobs around you in the dark areas. So it could be a fun mechanic for exploration, but definitely not strip mining.

Like the spelunker armor from Dungeons that has a candle on the thing you put on your head. Or even the cave crawler armor (unique spelunker armor) that has a proper helmet with a candle.

Yeah, having to fill half your inventory with torches to explore caves kinda sucks, but just be glad that the torches don’t burn out over time, lol.
