Change lighting to “Color” in your settings and place more torches during the day.

Wtf is happening at the bpttom of your screen? As to your question, check your monitor settings, hdr, and similar settings can change ingame brightness setting quite drastically.

I always find Retro lighting much better for visibility, but there seems to be something else wrong here.

I find Tiki Torches pretty cheap to craft, and usually put down a line of them on the surface at any location I spend a lot of time.
The night is normally fairly dark, but it is hard for me to tell from this photo if what you are experiencing is normal, or if you have something weird going on with your graphics settings/monitor. Full bright does exist, if you want: [https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/X-ray_vision](https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/X-ray_vision) , though must be input at world generation time.
