I don't understand how going up a waterfall is faster than climbing ladders , that makes no sense.
You could give ladders a speed boost , but then being slow is good if you're using it in a house , you wouldn't want to zoom by. So powered rails could give you the option to have a high speed upward travel while still keeping the option of having normal ladders.

Speed ladder? Even in reality, you can’t speed up how fast you go up and down a ladder.
I understand powered rails, like electricity makes minecart go faster, but I think powered ladder will just electrocute Steve
Or make a recipe for powered rails with a slime so they stick to walls
ladder climbing speed should be affected by the Speed effect instead
A redstone powered lift would be neat. Set up a vertical rail, stick a little cart on, and throw a lever/push a button to go up or down.
I’m tired of bubble elevators they’re annoying to set up.

I’ve been saying for years that a Clambering enchantment for leggings that increases movement speed on ladders/vines/scaffolding etc would be excellent

If you waterlog ladders you can go up them much faster. It’s been a feature since 1.13.
