Coarse dirt should prevent grass growth on dirt blocks placed above it.

This would make it so you could use dirt blocks in build giving players a block to decorate roads and pathways they couldn't use before because grass would always grow over it.

Why not just use course dirt instead of dirt?
Course dirt has a really noticeable texture so being able to use dirt instead would be a big + in some cases. Also you could mix dirt with course dirt in patches to add even more detail.

Also this feature wouldn't take away from any course dirt uses as it would be still needed to prevent grass growth.

I am wondering how it will be coded. One option is to check what block is under a dirt block each time it updates. Another one is to store the condition in a new variable for each dirt block.

Meh, I feel like coarse dirt is close enough to dirt, and moss blocks are close enough to grass to never really need this.

or get this, just use coarse dirt since grass doesn’t grow on it.

Why are you reposting, mods took your other post down.

I don’t mind the idea of being able to stop grass growing, but I’d rather it be done in a way that didn’t require additional layer of blocks. Maybe some kind of weed killer that has to opposite effect of bone meal. It’s stops plant growth.

And btw if you didn’t already know, grass won’t grow on dirt unless it’s connected already to other grass blocks. I feel like I’ve read it somewhere that it also needs sunlight but that might be wrong

I dont feel like this makes sense. I see the function but thats why coarse first was added to begin with no? Just to use where you’d want dirt not grass? Idk id be either way here but this seems like a mechanic if they do add a total of 3 people will remember and use regularly

  6. I don’t think I’d call coarse dirt’s texture “really noticeable”. Quite the opposite, in fact, it’s incredibly easy to mistake for normal dirt.

I don’t know why people are being such assholes about this this is a good suggestion

i like the idea but i think there are easier ways to implement this. like sheering the dirt could cause it to not grow grass or something

I like the idea of being able to keep the normal dirt texture even when the block is next to grass, but I think the better implementation would be something like adding what amounts to an herbicide. Maybe adding gunpowder, or glowstone dust? Squid ink?

Salt would have been the obvious answer if it was in the game.

  10. Before coarse dirt had its own texture it was visually identical to normal dirt but couldn’t grow grass. A few updates after it was added, it was given its own texture, which kind of defeats the purpose I feel like.

  11. What is coarse dirt even for? I use it for below surface filler at best, chuck it into lava 99% of the time.
