STORMS OF THE WILD

Storms in Minecraft always felt a bit meaningless. Lightning strikes randomly, good atmosphere and that’s about it. Even mechanics like Channeling end up being situational at best.

So I made Storms of the Wild, a mod inspired by the lightning mechanics from BOTW (original I know) that turns thunderstorms into something you actually can interact with.

If you're holding or wearing conductive gear during a thunderstorm, lightning may start targeting you. As seen in the video.

Metal items will begin sparking, faster and faster, until lightning strikes.

The sparks appear exactly on the item attracting the strike (mostly), helmet, boots, weapon, etc. Remove the item or get under cover and the charge stops.

Other mechanics built around the system:

True lightning damage: Armor no longer trivializes lightning

Leather armor insulates you: Full set grants full protection, but takes durability damage

Water increases lightning risk and damage

Thundering Helm enchantment: Grants lightning immunity and short fire resistance with a durability cost

Lightning Resistance potion: Brewed with blue orchids

Channeling tridents work on entities in water

Mobs and dropped conductive items can attract lightning and are affected by the true damage.

There’s also a small artifact mechanic:

If you're holding a goat horn when struck by lightning, it transforms into a Horn of Storms that can summon a thunderstorm.

The mod also includes custom spark particles and sounds, advancements, gamerules, spanish localization, and uses tags for compatibility with other mods.

Available for NeoForge 1.21.1. Fabric or other version ports could happen if there's interest. Always feel free to comment your thoughts, opinions, questions, requests and all of that. I love seeing people interact with my mods and always try my best to answer.
