I'm an old player, 32 yo at the moment.

Before all : I love this game. Really, I love it. Plus, I'm a modder, a 3D low poly modeler, and I LOVE to put my own assets in the game and through my mods.

But when playing survival… I just simply can't go deep into the game. I usually make a Vanilla modpack, an awesome world with datapacks (Worldgen + structures) and… that's it. I'm logging in, I play 20 minutes, and I won't touch it again.

So… How do you keep yourselves motivated ?

World building details. I’m all about connection and infrastructure, books and storytelling. Shops aren’t simply shops they are a brand within my world. Stations are connected to different towns etc.

When Ive exhausted what I can do in an area, I move and start anew, this allows me to start fresh and add another connection point to my railway and world building. Another opportunity for the world to be richer.

I’m not really into direct storytelling. I’m always interested in foundations / background / boring stuff. The stuff that brings the world together. Sure u can have a big story but it’s the details that make the world interesting.

It might sound silly like bruh why should I dedicate time to the frivolous stuff but if you really do stick to it your world becomes richer. The details are yours.

If I don’t feel motivated to play MC, I don’t play MC.

If I get an itch to try new modpack or do some build, I boot it up.

I’ve been playing MC for like 300h straight because of the modpack, but before that I had like 8 months of not touching the game at all.

There are thousands of games out there, don’t feel pressured to force yourself to play one.

  3. you played with sticks in the forest at some point in your life and found that adequate entertainment.

it is ok to accept that we change with time and adjust accordingly.

Vanilla Minecraft just isn’t that interesting once you’ve thoroughly explored it – and Minecraft naturally lends itself to being modded which has lead to it being the most modded game in human history and it is not close.

I don’t haven’t played vanilla in years because of how boring it is competitively to modded

  5. Here is a few tips and tricks from myself, also an old minecraft player that has been around since the Alpha of MC:

    – Dont Rush for the best gear, play slowly, take the world in
    – Explore the world, take everything in
    – Dont have one “main base”, rather make multiple smaller bases in different regions. That way each time you settle in a region its like starting a new game.
    – Connect settlements via various methods such as rivers and pathways. This will make your long term world feel connected
    – Make buildings for singular appliances. Instead of cramping all kinds of things into tight spaces next to each other, actually make dedicated spaces/buildings that are only there for one or two specific reasons. A library for enchanting, a kontor or warehouse for storage, a mill next to your fields for making pastries, a factory or smith hut for making and repairing weapons and so on.
    – Don’t try to minmax enchantments and potions, just go with the flow

These things will help greatly to have a forever world.

  6. I stay motivated even in beta 1.7.3 world, modern vanilla is even easier with more possibilities.

As a kid I had this simple Lego set – just basic 2×4 blocks, a lot of them. With only this I would play almost everyday building vehicles (with blocky wheels), skyscrapers, pretending that blocks of different colours are soldier and they’re fighting each other, used blocks to create racetrack for blocky-cars etc. etc.

Minecraft is the same for me. In my b1.7.3 world I built small medieval city, but city needed a temple ofc. What is temple without secret door and dungeon with riches. But secret doors required slime for pistons, so I started searching for slime chunk and built farm here. City also required founders statue, in colour ofc, and colour is easly achieved with wool, so I build passive mobs farm and to boost spawn rate I covered surrounding in sand to simulate desert and reduce mob spawning here. I still play this world, with so limited blocks and mechanics back from beta, since 2022, adding new cool stuff from time to time.

Vanilla Minecraft is like Lego. You need imagination and own goals. New updates with new blocks, mechanics etc. helps with that, like new lego pieces, but they’re still nothing without your agenda.

I like mods, for example rn I’m playing this more roleplay style cozy modpack with my gf building farms like in Stardew Valley. But for me mods are like different game and I don’t need them to ‘stay motivated’ in vanilla.

  7. I havent played vanilla in years. It feels really empty after experiencing mods and modpacks. Currently having fun with Beyond Depth modpack.

Mojang does a little update thing every once in a while while modders do a ton of content for free

  8. I give myself giant projects to do, rn im building a city so big my render distance cant keep up, but if i do get bored i just leave for a time, ik ill wanna play again, thr trick is to keep coming back to that one world instead of starting anothed, thatll always keep you interested

  9. I like vanilla, but I only play it on my Switch 2. And not as much as modded. But I just like good old fashioned building a lot, and sometimes I wanna build without worrying about machine space (I generally play tech packs, and the magic mods I use also take up a lot of space when I use them). It lends itself to different building styles if you don’t have to make a *ton* of space for every machine you use. I like peaceful, simpler gaming sometimes where I’m not making the super iron-gold combo create super machine and an auto miner hooked up to frog ports and chains. It’s not always necessary.

I also like that the Switch 2 I can play on my TV with keyboard and mouse, or handheld with controller. That’s fun.

I will say, I do play modded much more. And once thaumcraft updates uhhhh, it’ll be a while lol.
