I recommend possessing, among others, a weapon inflicting strong knockback.
Explore underground, too. You’ll notice a new biome, both on the surface, and reaching underground, with new effects.
If you know of a cave in which spiders lived, check it out again, the spiders have evolved and their drops are amazing for summoners.
Whatever new “material” items you find, show them to the guide in the “crafting” menu.
You should have obtained a hammer from killing the WoF. Use it to break at least 3 corrupt/crimson altars, it will make 3 tiers of new metal ores appear, with them you can craft new pickaxes (tier 1 bars, then tier 2 pickaxe with the metals mined by the tier 1 pickaxe), a new anvil (tier 2 bars), a new forge (tier 3 ores mined with tier 2 pickaxe, combined with the hellforge). Those new metals allow to craft a ton of very useful new equipments.
Visit the ice biome when it’s raining, you may encounter on the surface a new enemy golem dropping very precious items with which you can craft a cool whip and cool wings.

First things first, replace the blocks you’re using with “non-corruptable” blocks, as stone can become corrupted by either the Hallow (new biome in Hardmode) or your world’s corruption/crimson.
Secondly, that hammer that you get from the Wall can be used to break the altars that are in those evil biomes, and releases new ores to mine (you need to break at least 3 to get the new ores)
Apart from that, it’s just exploration of the different biomes for better loot. Depends what youre doing as a build, but the hardmode ores are a good start.
