After 38 hours spent in my personal hell I finally beat Moonlord. It was surprisingly fun experience, especially the start of the challenge. It could've been much shorter, but I was unfamiliar with the way Skyblock works and spent over 10 hours hunting for Lava fishing rod to get hellstone and hellforge (: (if you want to try this, learn some info beforehand. I went in blind and spent too much time on things that shouldn't take this long)
Some points I have to say after this + explanation of boss placement:
Rainbow boulders are THE best addition ever. Without them, the early game would be much more difficult. They allowed me to get some very basic gear from mimics and presents. Then I got wizard and the ice rod, which carried me until I got Toxikarp. After random pirate invasion, I managed to grab Barrel launcher, which allowed me to burrow and use its AoE through walls.
After a long time spent fishing and hunting for ore slimes I got palladium armor, in which I was confident enough to take on a first few bosses. The king slime was really easy, although not giving me anything useful. EoC was first tried too, giving me Shield even bigger confidence in myself.
This confidence was quickly shattered by EoW, as it took a few tries before finally dealing some damage to it, and even more before killing it whole (side note: vile mushrooms do not spawn once you need them). After that I fought queen bee (mistakenly placed in did not fight, should be in first try tier), but it was more or less just for the sake of the fight, as I didn't use anything it dropped. This was the moment I decided to upgrade my armor to titanium, which needs titanium forge, leading to 10 hours of fun with angler to acquire hellforge, as I had no idea it drops from skeletron (:
Skeletron was arguably the second hardest fight in this whole playthrough only thanks to my stupidity. I built the arena way too high and the space gravity made the dodging harder than it needed to be. After that I beat WoF for the additional accessory slot and emblem, which should've fallen on the first try, but I got skill issue'd by imps, being melted by the absurdly fast fire damage.
Mechdusa was interesting. First try ended terribly, so I overprepared for the next one. I tried OOA (which itself was not a great experience) just to never use anything I got from it. I built massive artificial jungle and got all needed Life fruits, shimmered all collected potions from fishing to create the few I really cared about and challenged the goblins, blessing me with shadowknife and goblin tinkerer, allowing me to combine and reforge all accessories to warding.
But the single best upgrade were the wings. As you may know, the mole people seed makes the whole world underground, meaning no wyvern and no souls of flight. But just behind the world border is normal space biome, meaning you can camp on top of the world and occasionally harpies and wyverns spawn. Wyverns however will immediately run straight up, more often than not just despawning before you had any chance to do anything. Even if you manage to kill it (barrel launcher carry), it usually gets at least the head out, meaning you still don't get any souls. It took me a few hours any many failed attempts to finally kill two of them before disappearing out of the border, but it was worth it. With wings and shadowknife, I easily beat mechdusa on third or fourth try.
Then came the biggest obstacle of this whole run – Plantera. My jungle was long but pretty shallow, and if I ever just touched any other biome, it would run at me at mach 7 and just one shot me. It took tens of tries and very careful arena preparation before I finally killed it… Nah just kidding, I missplayed on the last 463 HP and it ran away. That number will hurt me till the end of times. But in the end, after a good 50 tries, I finally got that plant down and could continue in my journey.
The golem was incredibly easy. I died only once and that was to random skeleton archer, again melting me on the spot. The boss itself wasn't as hard as annoying, as it took a few minutes of just running left and right and shooting in hopefully the right direction, since I couldn't see a thing.
The death of golem allowed me to get pumpkin moon and the broom, which ended up absolutely obliterating the lunatic cultist. It was really easy with unlimited flight, it took two tries as I messed up his clone thing for the first time (phantasmal dragon hurts).
The pillars were as cringe as always.
I was really scared of the Moon lord. I had all the potions, buff stations, nurse next to spawnpoint… just for it to be one of the easiest fights against him I've ever had. The only reason for not being it first try was that I got stuck on a random floating block in the middle of nowhere for the first time.
So yeah, this was indeed fun experience and I wholeheartedly recommend to you to try it. I'm by no means good player, but it was manageable and even I was able to beat it.
Tl:Dr all bosses were more or less fair if one didn't underestimated the preparation except Plantera
Sorry for any grammatical mistakes

Why did you fight the Dark mage but not duke or the empress?
