It seems like such a simple thing to add, and it would really elevate the atmosphere and immersion in the environment.

Is there some technical obstacle to doing this? seems like a no-brainer. Or am I alone in thinking this would be a game-changer?

  1. I’ve seen mods for it. Maybe they don’t want animal sounds coming from nowhere, but then again, you can catch fish where there aren’t any…

i dont think a lot of players tend to actually use headphones, and if they did use, these sounds would probably be off.

  3. Could be interesting. Peaceful noises in daytime, spooky noises at night (windy and the occasional crow sounds), echo and soft crackling of cooling lava in the Nether and then nothing in the End (I think that would make it eerie)

  4. hytale has this down perfect.

really would love minecraft to do their version of it since i play minecraft much more than hytale.

It would probably be quite intrusive if you have basic ambient noise that just plays whenever you’re in a specific biome. You could terraform a forest biome into a concrete jungle but the biome attribute stays the same, so there would still be trees creaking and bird song? It doesn’t make sense.

In fact, they already started adding ambient noise, but in a smart and not-so-simple way. For example, sand blocks emit very quiet ambient sound, but only if there are other sand blocks within 8 blocks in at least 3 horizontal directions, and only air above it. Firefly bushes also emit sounds, and also under specific conditions: [https://minecraft.wiki/w/Firefly_Bush#Ambient_sounds](https://minecraft.wiki/w/Firefly_Bush#Ambient_sounds)

They’ve added it to the newer biomes, take a second to stop and listen to the Pale Garden. I believe the Desert has ambient sounds also or maybe that’s the mobs there like the Parched, It does fit though.

I am pretty sure they stated before in one of the dev journals on youtube something about how special minecraft silence is. So it seems like a topic that they aren’t really interested in changing

They already have. You can hear the wind moving the sand and grass, fireflies flying around, etc. and in the pale garden you can hear the wood creaking around you. There’s also a lot of ambient sounds underwater, in the caves and in the Nether.

  9. Same goes for why doesn’t Mojang release end update >! or sex update !<.

Anyway mustard & ketchup update is more important than those to them.

I’m honestly thinking what’s dragging Minecraft’s dev/dev speed is the bedrock team, and don’t get me wrong bedrock is really nice game but devs have a lot more work with the programming language they’re handling AND the platforms they have to support. This + being backed by corporates leads to way slower & not player suggestion oriented dev.

  10. Even just wind and creaking would be nice. In game we can’t see any birds though they could do what Fortnite have and add purely ambient bird effects

  11. I usually add this add a mod. It makes the game so much more immersive. Sea sounds near the ocean, birds in the jungle, splashes walking in the rain etc. coupled with shaders and puddle effects etc it’s an awesome experience.

  12. mods already exist for that, and you know microsoft : they don’t have time for that

i recommend ambiant sounds 6 mod it’s really good

Go on MC Marketplace and download the “Soundscape” add-on, it’s really good if your playing on console

I’d love to have ambient sounds for different biomes blended in between the music

  15. They said something like “we won’t add sounds without source” or something like that, basicaly they want sounds to be clues about what’s happening and that’s it

The devs work for 5 minutes a day. Maybe it is planned but it will take at least 5 years. /j

  17. Lately, they are doing it, and in a better direction for a sandbox game. Instead of a biome-based ambience, they make blocks/items a source for ambience. In other words, we can control the ambience, which is befitting for a sandbox game. Also, if there’s gonna be bird ambience, it’s gonna be from the bird mob.
