I was walking around to go see something in my world and as I approached a lighting strike caused a skeleton horseman to duplicate. Im confused if this is a true mechanic but excited to have 3 skeleton horses for my world. Meet Bronco, Jolt and Mavrick.

Yes! This is an intentional mechanic, its called a ‘Skeleton Horse trap’.
This is the only way they can spawn.
Are you playing on peaceful mode?
Nope, it’s supposed to do that. A skeleton horse will spawn, and if you get close to it, lightning will strike it, and then 4 skeleton horseman will spawn after that. It’s an old feature, but it’s pretty rare. I’ve seen it twice, both times several years ago, but I haven’t seen it since. Enjoy your new skeleton horse trophies!

Well found. Mine appeared at the entrance of an underwater monument and I had to leash the horse back to shore.
