I think it has to do with the pixels on the screen, not necessarily the design of Steve.

Looks like the head is one pixel skinnier on each side, either that or its stretched vertically

unbalanced pixels because of the 3ds’ low screen resolution. if your device can handle it then you could try to bump up the render resolution in the emulator so it’s clearer

The screen doesn’t have enough pixels to show the face. Get close to a wall so the camera gets closer to the player to see Steve better
