It was a really cute scene where you basically woohoo Sam. But the texts got me confused because… i thought we already were dating by the point i gave him the bouquet at 8 hearts? After i gave him the bouquet he was all like 'i can't sleep imagining things we can do together 👉👈'. When I talk to Abigail and Jodi after giving Sam the bouquet, they even commented 'I heard you and Sam got together'. Then why in 10 hearts event Sam talks as if this is the first time we get romantic 🥲
I'm new to the game so maybe there's some context i miss?

Personally I read this as Sam being young and inexperienced, second-guessing the nature of his relationship with you because he can’t quite believe his crush loves him back.
This reads to me as young love that’s ultimately fishing to say and hear “I love you” for the first time. So, yes you’ve been dating since 8 hearts but this is the moment it moves into a relationship.

From a game design perspective you weren’t.
You could imagine it as two paths: platonic (which ends at 8 hearts) and romantic. Gifting the boquet is your button to tell the game it should show you the romantic path too.
In addition, though just my own headcanon: The events happened already in the past, when you see the cutscene, it’s just your character reminiscing about thosee times.
You are in a small town, not a nightclub hooking up on the first date. I dont think its that unusual to be boyfriend/girlfriend for a while until you actually sleep together? Maybe im just old fashioned.
