Portable light in the new April Fools’ snapshot (Why isn’t this in the original?)

I think it’s not in the original because Minecraft’s light rendering engine sucks and a moving light source is highly unoptimal

It’s because the light isn’t smoothly moving, it’s just jumping from block to block.

If they were to add dynamic lighting, they would need to make it smoother, which would almost certainly require a LOT more untangling of Minecraft’s code to do.

Edit: I would like to mention that this could be something we’ll see one day, since Mojang are slowly de-spaghetifying the game with the game drops (Hence their smaller scope), it’s just not something that’s going to happen right now.

  3. because that’s what players want. microsofts approach is to give players crap they never wanted or asked for and force them to like it or stop playing. not to mention the modding community made it happen first so they are extremely bitter about it so out of spite they refuse to add it to the game. putting it in the april fools update fully working is the ultimate act of spite. they want you to want it knowing you will never get it.

Because as you can see in the video, this is a gimmicky way of doing it. It’s essentially spawning a new light source every time it moves to a new block and deleting the previous one, because the light engine of mc is pretty ass.
Which will hopefully change when vibrant visuals come around.

Or not. But it’s an issue easily fixed by mods so i don’t mind too much.

  5. Recent april fools snapshots are about “Watch what we can do, but we’ll not do this in common game”, imho.

this would be so annoying though. leads are the most useful yet most anoying mechanic in the game
