for context, my farmer is brown-skinned and married to sebastian. our first kid, a boy, has the same skin and hair color as my farmer, but our daughter is completely pale (like sebastian) and her hair is a lighter brown than my farmer’s hair, to the point that it’s almost auburn. even her eyes are kinda blue-ish. sebastian has black eyes and hair (unless he’s wearing color-contacts and hair dye to really sell the emo vibe) so where did this coloring come from?? also, is it normal for one kid to have the same skin as the farmer and the other to have the same skin as the spouse? i didn’t cheat, i swear 😭 i don’t have any boyfriends or girlfriends on the side. i’m completely loyal to sebastian

stardew genetics are wild sometimes honestly
Maybe the baby has baby- blue eyes and they’ll darken with time?
This actually happens irl so I always thought this mechanic was intentional when people posted.
It’s happened to me a few times too (also with seb haha)
IRL genetics comment though – my daughter was born with pale skin, red hair, and blue eyes, and I cried because I thought my husband and his family would think I cheated on him. It turns out he had a Dutch great grandpa, and his hair was red when he was a baby. His family was completely unsurprised and his dad thought it was funny. My husband has black hair, and my mom and brother both have very dark type 3C hair. I’m the only one in my family with lighter hair. The only reason I didn’t think my kid was switched at birth was that she looks like a palette-swapped clone of my aunt.
Genetics are wild, you honestly think you know what you’ll get, and then…
thanks for reminding me of my coworker who would always play his own music in the kitchen especially a dubstep track which included a sample of katt williams saying “whose goddamn white baby is this?” before every drop (there were like three drops).
We can say it’s Robin’s genetics coming through!
Recessive genes, babeeeh.
But anyway yeah, apart from that, the hair color can be explained with age too—some people have blonde/brown hair as kids that eventually darkens to brown/black when they’re older.
So you can imagine that it’s that, and the hair just never darkens further because the game doesn’t show the kid get to that age.
so, the real answer is that there’s one black sprite and one white sprite for each gender no matter what the parents look like but I guess if you wanted a lore explanation you could say your daughter got a lot of Robin’s genes?
Robin’s genes probably
Punnet square has entered the chat
isn’t Sebastian’s mom red haired with green eyes? your kid looks like a brownish ginger, probably looks like his grandma, or some great grandparent

It can happen sometimes with kids irl, but is probably just a silly goofy in game thing. My charater has dark hair and Hailey’s hair is blond but my child has light brownish hair.
