I’ve seen alot about thorns “taking more durability off your armour” but isn’t that what Mending is supposed to counter? I don’t understand why you wouldn’t use it when you have mending too

Extensive fights would lead to higher chance of armour breaking, thus needing more XP bottles and time for repair in PvP.

In vanilla, no real reason. Just use it if you want.

IIRC thorns has a slight knockback effect when it procs which can be annoying if you’re already hitting something. Bc then its just further away.

Its more effective against more then 1 person it really depends on playstyle do you want that extra damage i doubt bows will activate it

It’s damage is not strong enough to make meaningful difference, but durability penalty is big enough to make you visit exp farm significantly more often. Additionally it may kill mobs that you do not want to be killed.

In surivival/PvE: Its so annoying for if you are trying to transport hostile mobs that you dont want to die (or atleast thats 1 reason)

In PvP: Its HORRIBLE since your armor breaks SOOOO much faster and it makes it so you need to bring more bottles of xp if you dont want to have your armor break aka meaning you can bring less potions/totems.

Also some extra things are that the kb with is annoying in both PvE and PvP and that there is not reason to have it in the first place since the dmg is literally useless.

  6. A little bit on top of the durability is the fact you have to look for this enchantment, combine it with others in the right order and place it and the armor. Is already annoying / tedious to get the basic mending, durability and protection enchantments to also have to search for thorns, which isn’t that good.

I’m not sure how many levels costs to put thorns, but I suppose I’m not alone in thinking it whatever it costs, isn’t worth.

Thorns damages the armor more when you get hit and doesn’t do enough damage to make up for that

  8. For me personally, as someone who exclusively plays single-player or co-op survival:

    – If I have to herd a hostile mob someplace it’s easier to do so without the risk of Thorns killing it.

    – The durability loss from Thorns adds up very quickly over prolonged fights, and I value keeping my armor intact over whatever damage Thorns provides.

    – I don’t struggle to do damage, and the added damage of thorns is unlikely to make a significant difference.

    – I generally try to avoid taking damage in fights, which reduces the chances of Thorns proccing.

  9. When I’ve used it on my main armor, I tend to notice Thorns more when it’s annoying and less when it’s helping. I prefer to use it only for specific situations.

Durability penalty and makes working with hostile mobs like zombies/zombie villagers more annoying.

  11. When i play multiplayer with my freinds we don’t like thorns ‘cuz its anoying when we randomly do a litl fight, or just like punch each other, and when we build things like iron farms(or any farm that requiers a hostile mob in it) its anoying that the thorns just kill them,

When i play singelplayer, i don’t put thoens ‘cuz
    1. Im alone so its harder to get things like mending and XP

    2. When im alone i mostly build giant builds and its anoying to have to mend my armor so much when gathering stuff

    3. I do put sometimes only on my chestplate so if im just doing smth like crafting and a zombie attacks me he dies, but i do that only after i have a maxed out chestplate without thorns and not all the times

Edit: when i play non pvp server but i join late i sometimes go to end citys for loot ‘cuz its faster if someone gives me an elytra, when i find there armor sometimes it has thorns so i just keep it untill i get a better one

  12. I use thorns III on my armor on my survival server because killing mobs by doing nothing is FUNNY and it makes me LAUGH

  13. 1. An extra enchantment to get
    2. Enchantment limit
    3. Durability cost
    4. Can kill enemies I want to survive (zombie villagers)
    5. I don’t plan on getting hit to begin with…

  14. I put thorns on my chest plate *after* I have an elytra.

Because usually I’ll wear the elytra 24/7, and only wear the chest when I reeeeeally need to maybe. Because yea, thorns eats up durability way faster. I wouldn’t put it on the legs, just the chest plate that rarely gets used post-elytra

  15. when working with hostile mobs for making farms, build or whatever, it can get annoying because they die while hitting you.

thorns is something I sometimes use sometimes dont, but I will never ever use flame and fire aspect, the worst things in the entire game.

For me personally there’s just not enough utility for it to be worth it, especially if I run into the edge cases where you wouldn’t want it, such as transporting mobs.

  17. I used to think it was neat, but it’s just not for me. I do like it, but I’m bad at the game and need every point of durability on my netherite armor! Plus, extra book to grind for a villager to sell at a decent price.. huge pain.

  18. actuallyplayboy on

Well for me I’m pretty good at PVP so I think thorns would be a waste of time to get and useless

  19. It was for a long time bugged. Alot of people still think it was the normal behavior/its still like that.

On MP servers with alot of PvP your armor could still break faster.

People are to lazy to craft a 2nd set of armor, for mob handling.

As I only started when the bug was fixed, I always use it. On all pieces.

With Mending its anyway not an issue. And I always have a 2nd set, without it.

Chestplates breaking before helmets in PvP is a nono, also I hate moving zombie villagers around with thorns in singleplayer ahah.

I think its good. Ive been afk before and forgotten about my game and came back alive holding rotten flesh thanks to thorns. I never have to pay attention to durability almost, it just heals from playing the game

I dislike thorns because I am a pacifist by default, I like to raise villagers, vibe with endermen and sometimes collect mobs. The first time I foubd a coral zombie nautilus I accidentally hit him when trying to feed him, and he could have died retaliating because a friend had gifted me a thorns chestplate, it’s just not super compatible with my gameplay.
