I'm new ish at the game so i dont know much about most late/mid game stuff, i don't get how I'm suposed to be able to get to level 100 in the skull caverns when it resets every time I go in, it's not like people usually do the normal mines 100 levels in a day. and the only difference with the skull caverns that I know about is that there's holes sometimes so you have a chance to fall like 5 levels down (and more annoying monsters), but I've tried it already 2 or 3 times and the most I could get to was around level 15 before I don't remember if I passed out or was killed by some monster, but it was pretty late in the day anyway so how are you suposed to have time to get down 100 levels? is there something I'm missing? cuz I'm pretty sure the game doesn't want you to staircase all the way down. do I need a better weapon or something? cuz I've heard somewhere that the lava katana is the best one exepct for the sword you get with a prismatic shard. So am I prepared enough and it's just hard or is there something I'm missing? Also I only go to the skull caverns on those super good luck days.

Bomb everything.
No you’re not even close. You need bombs, staircases, and buffing food. Get the weapon from the prismatic shard if you can, but you don’t need it.
you need spicy eel, bombs, staircases, life elixiers or decent food and a galaxy sword but lava katana will do too
You need a lot of bombs if you’re not going to use stairs.
Not even close to 100.
This is the bare minimum to survive. If you want to actually be prepared:
* Bombs
* Gold+ pickaxe
* Buff food (spicy eel is popular but anything with defense, luck, speed helps)
* A single stack of good healing food.
* Stairs
My tips
– 1 toten to get in fast
– 80 bombs to blow everything
– 10 stairs to avoid bad levels and monster levels
– very luck day
You are not prepared.
Save up jade, on Sundays the desert trader trades Jade for staircases.
I use staircases on floors with the rocks too spread out, and on floors where there are lots of rock clusters close together, just use bombs and look for holes first, ladders second.
You need food. You need food for healing. I’m lazy and being pizza, but I also bring spicy eel for the luck and speed buffs. I’ll eat one spicy eel until it wears off.
Also, your weapon. You really want to take a higher level weapon. I think that is a level 7 lava blade you have? You need, preferably, the Galaxy sword.
Don’t rush. I didn’t bother doing skull cavern until year 3. Go at your own pace, save up stuff until you’re ready, have fun!
Edit; oh your pickaxe. You want that iridium.
Use crystalariums to make a ton of jade, on sunday go to desert trader and buy a bunch of staircases. I recommend like 80-100 staircases, use all but 10 right away. Then bring at least 50 bombs. Only go on a very good luck day. Keep bombing down until 100 after using all but 10 of your staircases, dont worry about the loot yet. After that explore the level quickly for iridium and other valuables, bomb it if you find it, then move on. Doing this we managed to get 4 prismatic shards and like 250+ iridium in a multiplayer run (2 people) where time moves faster than it does in singleplayer in the cavern.
Also you’re going to want at least 10-20 life elixir and a gold pickaxe at minimum + a better sword.
With that setup, its more likey Harvey is going to drag your half dead body back to your bed.
Do some feeler runs until you get a prismatic shard.
Use that to get a galaxy sword.
Once you have that, you can start to plan a proper run.
No, not even close. Sorry. Like everyone else said you need a lot of bombs, stairs if you can possibly get them. And you need much better food, and a lot more of it. That number of field snacks might get you to the 5th floor. And you want to ensure you are going on the best luck day you can possibly get.
I found the secret was cheese. I started hoarding all my gold cheese, which is easy to come by if you have cows. It gives a huge chunk of health and energy.
Plus you’ll want bombs, some pre-prepped staircases, and good food for speed and luck like Spicy Eel.
It’s also easier if you have a fully maxed out pickaxe. You’re probably not getting to level 100 with this kit, but hopefully you can get some iridium!
Bombs, staircases and MORE CHEESE
This feels like ragebait lol
I mean it would be possible if you had godlike skill and luck. If you want to just get to level 100 trading jade for staircases is the easiest way. If you want to do it the fun way you should get some bombs and explosive ammo and a bit more food
You need a bunch of bombs. Preferably use bombs on the most stacked rocks you see. That’s your way of finding your way down without mining every stone one by one.
You need food buffs, spicy eel is great, magic rock candy too but anything is fine that gives you luck speed or defense. Bring some espresso if you want too.
You also need food to keep your health up, I recommend cheese since it’s easy to make.
When I go I usually have 100 bombs, 50 mega bombs, 100 cheese, 2-3 spicy eels and some espresso. Also make staircases when you get to an infested level, the spiral level or just when it takes you too long to find a ladder
Upgrade the pickaxe, more food and get iridium ore and a prismatic shard
I agree with everyone that your load-out isn’t adequate to get to 100. But don’t get discouraged. Farming the skull cavern a bit will give you lots of useful materials (and extra items if you have a burglar ring). Read the comments as there’s lots of good advice.
My tips for 100:
– iridium pickaxe
– galaxy sword or other strong weapon
– at least 10 staircases (more if you want to rush it), to get you out of a jam
– coffee/espresso for speed
– cheese for quick healing
– buffing food for luck, strength, mining, speed, whatever (I like pumpkin soup, spicy eel, and lucky lunch the most)
– bombs. Lots and lots of bombs. I go with 100 at least.
– a desert warp totem. Get there early and you have a better chance
Happy mining ⛏️ 🙂
I recommend stacking up gold star cheese. It’s a great heal food. I keep like 30+ in my inventory lol. Spicy eel for luck+speed, espresso for extra speed, bombs for quick work, and staircases for annoying levels (monster infested ones lol). 10 iridium bars for the recipe to craft desert warp totem from the desert trader, or horde Omni geodes. Rubies for spicy eel from him too! You can also get staircases from him on Sunday for jade. And don’t forget to check the tv and go on lucky days!
The pickaxe is actually the worst aspect of this. You’re going to run out of time banging on rocks, and have to eat all your food just to have the energy to find the stairs.
You need bombs and staircases. LOTS of them.
If you don’t want to use stairs then you need a ton of bombs and explosive ammo for the slingshot. Hit the caverns on good luck days, consume something that increases luck, and the luck ring if you have it to increase the chances of finding a hole which will drop you down a few levels. I always go with life elixir for health and triple spot espresso for the speed buff.
You’ll want to blow up as much as possible as quickly as possible.
If you wanna use stairs, just buy them from the desert trader right above the bus. I forget what she charges for them, though. This method isn’t as fun, though.
On one particularly insane day I was able to get to 100 starting at 1pm with 4 staircases, 10 bombs (going in, I made more as I got the materials), 3 cactus fruit, and the purple mushrooms I found while cave diving. However, that was a uniquely crazy day where I got a ton of shafts, and while I don’t check the luck often, I suspect I had maximum luck on my fortune.
Watch a tutorial video of someone doing Skull Caverns. It will show you more than reading a few paragraphs anyone types out.
What are your rings like
I put jade in 3 of those crystal replicator machines and bought 115 staircases from the desert vendor and cheated my way down ngl
Mr Qi “scolds” you for it but I really wanted it done and out of my journal lol
hi, i think you should check out salmence’s video on the Skull caverns: https://youtu.be/ufABBYy8J5Q?is=20Rxo0cDomLqgaIX
i think it’s easier to follow a video than read comments. it goes as in depth as you might need, and explains why you would need what he recommends you to have!
Spicy Eel, Triple Espresso, and tons of Bombs.
Black bombs and the slingshot explosive ammo. Use staircases when you get to floors that take too long. Use a food like spicy eel for faster move speed and luck
It’s a waste for you to go at this point. Finish the regular mines to get better gear stock up on food and bombs plus a few emergency staircases
You can try it and find out!
Don’t worry about getting home either, mine till you pass out it’s worth the gold.
Nope you need bombs and food that raises luck and a lot of that food. With additional goat cheese. I would carry some staircases too I’ll say like 50-100 just to be safe. And always go on a day with a lot of luck. Check the TV every morning and you will know. I honestly would create a desert warp totem if you could and the have a farm totem ready to since you will be in the mines until close to 2a
I did it with stair cases.
Also, for food, I’d recommend cheese. Gives you decent health and stamina and with a few cows you have an unlimited, free supply.
Um… you can enter the skull cavern but you won’t get very far with that. And Linus will habe to drag you out. I take about 30 peppers before going into the cavern..and defense rings, boots, 3 weapons , I use the beetle head a lot
I think iridium pickaxe is absolutely essential. Don’t use much resources initially and mine for more iridium, upgrade your tool, collect some bombs, and inspire yourself for a future where you have lots of bombs for a single day so that you can sweep all floors. Statue Of The Dwarf King can give better luck for staircases.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: galaxy sword, fat stack of cheese, warp totem for emergency exit, and enough bombs to get you put on a homeland security watchlist
To get to level 100 no
Its worth going to see where youre at and to see what you can expect
The skull caverns arent like the mines where its split up into distinct environments so what you see is more or less what youll get save for a few examples of different stuff
i never have without the skull cavern elevator mod… maybe one day i’ll try without it but alas… my skills aren’t as good as i want them to be
Your farmer has a long neck.
for reference this is what take with me to the skull cavern and i get to 100 everytime
(granted it is on hard mode)
– infinity blade
– 100+ spicy eel
– 100+ triple shot espresso
– at least 40 pineapple jelly (for healing)
– 600 bombs
– 400 mega bombs
– at least 20 staircases
– frog trinket
– luck ring
– rabbits foot
First off, go on a very lucky day.
Bring Spicy Eel, Triple Shot Espresso Coffee, all the cheese, and bombs. Lots and lots of bombs.
You don’t need to explore every level or kill every monster (except on certain floors.) Your job is to find the ladders/shafts. If you get to a level and find a ladder right next to you, go down. It’s a speed run. Don’t worry about picking every stone or gathering every ore. Your goal is Down. Always Down.
One thing I’m not seeing mentioned is the slime charmer ring. I felt like it was essential so I could focus on defending myself from stronger monsters instead of getting overwhelmed
i recommend bringing bombs and going on a good luck day. since you’re early game just go and see how far you get!! if you have food that has luck buffs those will help a ton. i didn’t make it to level 100 until i got a little bit further into the game with better weapons and stuff. if you really want to get rid of the quest just bring 100 staircases lol
Yea you’re all set have fun!
As many speed and luck boosts as you can get. Triple shot espressos, spicy eels, and non-buffing food like cheese for restoring health. You’ll also want lots of bombs, preferably mega bombs, to uncover as many potential staircases and especially shafts as possible. Some staircases for skipping bad floors is also a good idea, best way to get them is to duplicate jade in the crystalarium and trade them for staircases with the desert trader on I think sundays.
If you have a crystallirium I recommend putting a jade in it and saving them up. Jades can be traded at the desert trader on Sundays to get staircase to help you reach floor 100 easier.
On a similar note if you have another crystallirium to spare put a ruby in and save up rubies! They can be traded any day at the desert trader for spicy eels which give speed and luck boost!
You’ll need more food and bombs, and I would try and get a galaxy sword before trying a floor 100 run! It’s possible with the obsidian edge but it will take way longer to kill enemies.
Go on a good luck day if possible and asap in the day. You got this!
I think the biggest piece of advice is: Don’t feel like you need to get to 100 on the first try.
Everyone here is mentioning trading jades for staircases and all that, but you have to remember that cloning Jades requires the Crystalarium, which is in turn mainly crafted using Iridium, which you need to get from the skull caverns.
The game gives different dialogue for whether you completed the quest with a lot of stairs or not.
Just focus on getting to level 30-40 consistently. In the beginning, just go there and start banging rocks and killing only the things stopping you from banging rocks. You’ll come across some iridium in your travels. I’d recommend using your initial iridium to make: the iridium pickaxe, and to craft crystallariums.
If you come across desert warp totems, keep maybe 2-3 for when you finally do the 0-100 run. Any extra you can use to get extra time in the caverns.
WIth crystallariums, you can use to clone jade to trade for some staircases, but not that many. From then on, I like to actually put in **quartz**. This is so that you can trade them in the desert trader for regular bombs, which will be your best friend. However note that quartz generates quickly, so you might need to visit your crystallariums 3x in a non-mine day to maximise.
Feel free to use the bombs you have in the beginning rather than saving them. Spending them to get to floor 30-40 will get you more iridium, and you can use them for more crystallariums and in turn, more bombs. In the beginning, you can buy some bombs from the dwarf.
Your goal shouldnt really be trying to clear the floors of enemies or breaking all the rocks, but breaking enough rocks to uncover a ladder or hole. Ignore things like non-iridium ores unless theyre close – your time is more valuable.
Entering the caverns you should have:
1. A decent weapon. I think the lava katana should be fine, but galaxy sword is better. Remember youre here to blast rocks, not kill enemies.
2. A good stack of bombs. Trade quartz for them at the desert trader. When I did the 0-100 run, I used maybe 60-70 regular bombs. Again, feel free to use them if you have them if it means you can get to the floors where iridium is. Some people alternatively, prefer to use the slingshot with explosive ammo, but I play on a tablet, and it’s hard to aim.
3. A good stack of food to heal. Some like to use cheese as it’s easy to get if you have cows and heals for a lot. I personally like sashimi because i can get the ingredients cheaply with crab pots. Note low-healing foods arent a problem as time freezes when you eat anyway.
4. Some coffee, but preferably triple shot espresso. This will make you faster and therefore allow you to go deeper in the mines. With triple shot espresso you can probably fit in 3 in one day. You can get free coffee from the coffee machine from Evelyn’s quest, or you can grow coffee beans (ideally in greenhouse) and brew them in a keg. YOur first coffee bean can be gotten from the travelling cart.
5. Pickaxe – Iridium is best , but gold is fine. The bombs will be doing most of the work, but sometimes you want to break a single rock and it’s not worth the bomb.
6. Staircases. – This is optional in the beginning if you’re aiming for just floor 30-40, but there are two instances where you want to use this: the floors that are a big spiral, and floors where you an infestation and have to kill every enemy. Note you need to use less than 10 staircases to get the “good ending” of the quest.
7. Optional is any food that will increase luck or speed. Spicy eel is the classic example. You can trade them with rubies at desert trader. Clone rubies at the crystallariums.
8. Optional is the desert warp totem. You’ll want this on your real 0-100 run, as you can save on walking time. An alternative is a tent kit – camp outside the caverns the previous night.
No, you’re not prepared enough.
Oh honey… no.
You need WAAAYYY more food. Good, quality food like gold star cheese, spicy eel, lucky lunch, and coffee or triple shot espresso.
Also bombs and stair cases. And upgrade your pickaxe.
