I’m really not sure what this is other than some attempt at an AFK farm. Generally old afk farms are built to kill the enemies for you, which is why the old pyramid method worked so well.
Nowadays you just get the stress ball and let your character auto swing til kingdom come.

The spawning mechanics is why not. Game picks a random tile and looks downwards for a block to spawn upon. Having multiple rows of blocks does not “speed up” or even change the farm’s output. Just use the bottom one.
That being said, volcano style is very inefficient if you are only using lava for damage. It’s only 8 tiles wide or so. You could make the whole floor lava on conveyors with the spawn blocks above in the actual spawn range so mobs die or take damage offscreen.
