I must say, the Barnacle Staff is way too rare for it's own good. I read it's about as rare as the Crystal Serpent/Bladetongue/Toxikarp, but I have found those in a tenth of time it took to find the Barnacle Staff. It's only slightly better than the Queen Spider Staff too, mainly because it can float mid-air vs. having to spawn it on a block. I would also like to mention my Fishing Power was 200-300 the whole time. I was sitting in a chair, fishing in a max sized pond (Golden Rod/Master Bait), while wearing Captain's Armor, the Lavaproof Tackle Bag, Fishing Bobber & Angler Earring while it was raining in the morning (mostly).
I may just pass on the Barnacle Staff my next run, but at least I'll enjoy opening these crates.
