They didn't steal anything or copy. They made a game with pixels. There's only so much you can do with that.
They literally use its sprites like c'mon! It looks good but it's such a rip off

Stardew valley didn't even invent this style of game harvest moon/ story of season had many games since 1990s
Well to be faif the game has a general pixel-aesthetic that I think will always give off the same vibes as other similar pixel games. Also, it's not like Stardew Valley is a unique concept. In the end everything is derivative.

Until something similar to Zoo Tycoon 2 or Planet Zoo comes to Switch, I’d probably get this to tide me over. I didn’t really like Let’s Build a Zoo, and with only two other zoo management sims on the Switch (Jurassic World Evolution and Megaquarium) I’m happy to take anything.
Jurassic World Evolution is honestly making me wonder why you couldn’t port a similar 3D zoo game onto the Switch, of course this is without me possessing the knowledge of game development at all so I apologise if this comment comes off as rude.

Game looks amazing because SDV is amazing. Will NOT be purchasing a total ripoff. They should be taken to court!

I personally don't care if it looks alike stardew. I mean those graphic are beautiful to me.
In that case people could trash almost all games since they use same engine.
However i see the big similarity with stardew, we can't miss it. But that's fine. Better copy the best than the baddest.
what was the bad thing about this game exactly? I mean if they stole SV asset and all that pretty legit concern but if thet just ctrl+v theme and mechanics? duuude I wish there's a dozen of SV clone as good as this one and I got no problem supporting the dev.

Everyone realizes Stardew Valley isn't the first Farm/Romance/Town Sim..? Primarily Stardew is massively pulled from the older Harvest Moon series?

I think I'm the only person on the planet that gets stressed out playing Stardew Valley. What if I forget to water my crops? What if Leah finds out I can't run? Is there some way I could be making more money? AAAHHH how/why do I do this to myself?!?! 😂

There's no farming, mining or fighting! It's mostly about animals. It's cute. But idk.
They already received some warnings from Concerned Ape about the similarities and they are changing the graphics and buildings etc… They're aware and I'm sure Barone is keeping an eye on them all the time 😆 we don't have to worry about that.
They're doing their best, I follow and talk to the Devs and they're so kind.
Even the graphics are similar, the plot is different from SV, it's about a Zoo. And also for the players that don't like mods (like me) it's nice to play something similar.

Another note tho. A lot of games use the “inherent the x place” “fix up the sad dying town/buildings/ect” tropes. It’s like the equivalent of starting in a tavern in a TTRPG
hmm.. no, this is more a zoo game. The graphic is pretty similar but that's where the similarity ends. The game adds extra flairs, such as animal collecting, breeding system, and zoo mechanics to it. Rebuilding town hall, inheriting farm, looking after the animal is not exclusive to Stardew. If we go by that route, where using a game as inspiration is called ripping off, then Stardew definitely rip off Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons.
So I understand why people are upset but I have question? So now games can't use pixel art styles anymore? Because SDV did it and now it is theirs? I'm really curious I didn't think gaming art sales could be owned
It looks like a copy… but I'm not sure if that signals a lack of effort given that they likely just copied the style not simply stolen the code or anything of that nature.
So, yeah I might give this game a chance. Kinda want to see if there's combat though (I know it doesn't fit, but good lord I love when there's combat in farming sims)
Tbh, it's a stretch to say he owns the art style. Many artists have similar to downright the same art styles, and that has been the case as long as artists have existed. I've seen games before and after stardew with similar art styles. Now, assets is another argument entirely that's not okay if they straight stole assets from stardew. As for the premise, Concerned Ape doesn't get to lay claim to the concept of inheriting a run-down facility and being tasked with fixing it up and expanding it. Plenty of games before and after stardew have already used that concept it's not new. I dont think he is laying claim to that concept, but stardew fans seem to be doing that for him. I don't think it is right. There is space for other devs to do that too, and it's kinda a shame cause fans of stardew are discouraging people to make games like that cause it's a great concept. I read that the zoo devs are taking the accusations very seriously and are actively trying to take steps to change it which could lead to it not being as good as it can be and that's not good for anyone. I think people need to back off with that negativity, and as long as they don't straight up steal apes assets, there shouldn't be a problem. If people are getting mad about pixel art looking the same, they should then take up their pitch forks against travelers' inn and graveyard keeper and a lot of other games as well.

I don't get it. The graphics (except for a few obvious assets) genuinely do not look that similar to me, plus, the pixel does also seem more detailed, which is inherently different as well. At this point, nobody can make their own version of a pixel art farm experience without it being compared to Stardew valley. What if this game came out before stardew valley, would we consider stardew valley to "copy" this game?
I don’t think there’s any issue with the similarities in gameplay. I mean no game is truely original and all games take inspiration from others. It’s just more noticeable here because the art style is so similar. I think the zoo twist on the game adds enough uniqueness to set it apart. There are definitely some parts of the style of stardew that are similar but it’s important to remember that stardew valley isn’t the only game that uses that style. It’s fairly common across other genres as well. I think the real issue is that some of the assets look almost identical (e.g. some of the trees) but it seems like they’re addressing that. I actually like the overall style and don’t see a problem with it as long as those assets get changed to be a bit more unique. I can see why it bothers people but it’s really not that unusual and it’s only really an issue when games are literally stolen and remade using the same code/assets, ect or when someone copies a game that becomes popular without adding anything to it (like rip offs of mobile games that have gotten popular and are basically just copied and pasted mechanics). Also of course they have dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are awesome!
Concerned ape could sue because it is similar and my super zoo story wouldn’t be released since it looks to me they are just plagiarizing the game and changing a few things
I’m excited for this game, sure the art style is very similar but it’s a pixel art game there’s only so many ways to design trees, buildings, etc. Especially since Stardew itself is not original in the slightest. The “inherited property” storyline has been used for decades in games, books, movies, etc. And Concerned Ape does not own the art style.
