Brussels, Belgium – ChatGBT, Reddit, and Roblox have entered a new phase of European oversight after the European Commission classified them as ultra-large digital services.
This classification imposes additional obligations under the Digital Services Act.
The decision comes after the three services surpassed 45 million monthly users within the European Union.
As a result, they are now required to comply with stricter rules regarding digital safety, transparency, and risk management.
“Chat GBT” under scrutiny
ChatGBT is receiving particular attention after the European Commission classified it as a “super-large” search engine.
This move reflects the expansion of European oversight to include artificial intelligence services.
Under the new rules, the risks associated with illegal content and disinformation must be assessed.
Furthermore, user protection, especially for minors, must be strengthened.
Reddit and Roblox face greater commitments
Reddit and Roblox, on the other hand, are now required to implement additional measures
regarding user-generated content, child protection,
and transparency concerning their recommendation systems and algorithms.
The companies must also conduct regular risk assessments and take steps to mitigate
their potential impact on users and society.
Compliance deadline
The European Commission has given companies four months to begin implementing the new obligations.
This comes as part of a broader policy aimed at increasing the responsibility of major technology companies.
The decision confirms that Brussels is moving towards stricter oversight
of the most widespread digital platforms and services.
Therefore, it is focusing on user protection, transparency,
and holding companies accountable for the risks that may arise from their services.
