Minecraft 26.3 is set for launch, featuring combat improvements and cross-game rewards in Dungeons II, enhancing the player experience across platforms.

Minecraft is approaching a significant release, with version 26.3 nearing its public debut. Mojang has announced that this update has reached its first Java Edition release candidate. Concurrently, Minecraft Dungeons II is preparing to introduce rewards that players can utilise across different versions of the game, including Java and Bedrock Editions.

Minecraft 26.3 Release Candidate 1 represents a nearly finished build as part of the Wilderness Bound expansion. Mojang indicates that this version could become the official release if no critical issues are identified during testing. The update includes four key fixes addressing various gameplay aspects. Notably, these modifications are designed to enhance combat dynamics. Two of the fixes focus on the blocking mechanics, ensuring that items reliant on blocking interact correctly during combat. Specifically, items using the weapon component with the disable_blocking_for_seconds feature will no longer affect items governed by the blocks_attacks component, and axes can no longer disable shields.

This offers players a more predictable combat experience, a crucial improvement for both general gameplay and for creators who design custom experiences within Minecraft. Additionally, changes have been made to the match_block loot predicate, correcting a requirement that was erroneously demanding a block entity in situations where it was not applicable. Although these nuances may not be immediately noticeable to everyday survival players, they promise a smoother experience for creators managing loot logic.

Furthermore, a visibility exploit involving ender pearls has been resolved. Players previously could gain unintended visibility through solid blocks when throwing a pearl from specific angles. While the root technical issue has not been specified, the fix has been implemented to enhance gameplay integrity before the final release of version 26.3.

In a parallel development, Minecraft Dungeons II is taking steps to create stronger connections between the various iterations of the franchise. Players can now unlock specific cosmetic items across Minecraft Dungeons II, Java Edition, and Bedrock Edition by logging in with the same Microsoft account. For instance, the Hero Cape will be available to players who have engaged with the original Minecraft Dungeons and access Dungeons II before December 31, 2026. This cape, once acquired, can unlock in both Java and Bedrock versions.

Another reward, the Twisted Cape, is available for players who pre-order Minecraft Dungeons II, alongside additional items such as the Twisted Chicken pet and character versions of Steve and Alex. However, not all cosmetic items will transfer across these platforms, as some Deluxe Edition rewards, like the Soul Cape and Blub pet, are exclusive to Dungeons II.

While the franchise continues to showcase distinct gameplay experiences across its various versions, this new system allows for a greater synergy between them. As Minecraft 26.3 prepares for launch, the updates serve to refine core gameplay mechanics while simultaneously introducing exciting features between titles. Such strides suggest a commitment to enhancing the player experience and creating a more cohesive ecosystem across the Minecraft franchise.
