Roblox wants Indians to make games on its platform, not just play them. At its UNBOX ROBLOX event in New Delhi this week, the company released an India Economic Impact Report. Its most interesting finding is that Indian creators on Roblox already earn more from players abroad than from players at home.

“This is the age of small studios and the next big hit on Roblox could come from India,” said Sunil Rao, Managing Director of Roblox India and South Asia. He added that Roblox’s daily active users in India grew 64 percent year on year in the quarter ended June 30, 2026.

Roblox India Chief Says Platform’s Next Big Hit Could Come From IndiaBuilt in India, played in the US

According to the report, overseas users make up 52 percent of daily players on games made by Indian creators and bring in 55 percent of their revenue. The US, UK and Japan are the biggest markets for these games. In the survey, 92 percent of creators said Roblox helps them reach international players.

The best-known example is Small World Games, a self-funded Bengaluru studio founded by Zankhit Chawda. It started in a spare bedroom and now employs about 20 people. Its game Death Ball has crossed 1.6 billion visits, and Racket Rivals has over 560 million, with most players coming from outside India.

It isn’t only about games. Delhi-based Arjun Goel, who came from a theatre background rather than coding, taught himself 3D design during the Covid lockdown. His digital fashion brand, Meta Fashion, has sold over 2.5 million virtual items and now has five full-time employees.

Small numbers, fast growth

The number of Indian creators eligible for Roblox payouts grew 96 percent a year between 2020 and 2025, and total payouts rose 72 percent a year. But that base is still small, at a little over 250 creators in 2025. Roblox hasn’t said how many Indians use the platform, only that daily users grew at a compound annual rate of 76 percent over the same five years.

The report, prepared by Access Partnership for Roblox, estimates that creator activity added Rs 123.9 crore to India’s GDP between 2020 and 2025 and supported around 510 full-time jobs in 2025.

Most creators seem to learn on their own. Among those surveyed, 94 percent said they could build games with little prior experience, 65 percent learned through the Roblox community and 62 percent through YouTube tutorials. Another 91 percent said their Roblox work helped them land outside jobs, freelance gigs or business deals.

Why India matters to Roblox

With over 500 million gamers, India has the second-largest gaming population in the world. The report expects India’s video game revenues to grow from Rs 6,300 crore in 2025 to Rs 9,200 crore by 2028, about 13 percent a year compared with 5.1 percent globally.

The phone is how most Indians get to Roblox, with 88 percent of surveyed users accessing it on mobile. For Roblox, the bigger bet is that some of those players will go on to build the platform’s next global hit.
