Terraria launched on Steam on May 16, 2011, and plenty of us remember the first night with it. You made a new world, swung a pickaxe at the dirt, and hoped to find a friend before the sun went down. Now Re-Logic is working on a way for friends on different platforms to find each other, and the update that does it has hit a small delay.
In its October 2026 State of the Game, posted Thursday, October 29, the studio said Terraria 1.4.6 missed its planned submission window. The update carries Crossplay Phase One. The latest round of testing turned up a few problems that need fixing first.
What Happened to the Early-Week Submission Plan
Re-Logic finished its work on Crossplay Phase One earlier in October. Then it dropped the build into extensive testing. The team had hoped to get 1.4.6 into submission on all platforms earlier this week. That didn’t happen.
“We had hoped to have the update in submission across all platforms earlier this week, but our latest round of tests uncovered a few things that will need to be addressed before we can do so.” – Terraria on Steam
The studio doesn’t expect the fixes to take long. It also said the build wasn’t ready as of writing the post. If all goes well, Re-Logic should be back on track the week of Monday, November 2.
Why Crossplay Gets a Closer Look
Submission is where the real waiting starts. Re-Logic can’t force a date, because every first-party partner has to approve the update before it goes out. The studio also expects extra attention this time. Crossplay is a new feature that cuts across multiple platforms, so reviewers will likely look harder.
“Once in submission, we have no way to fully predict when it will be signed off by all of our first party partners.” – Terraria on Steam
Once everyone signs off, Re-Logic says it will push the launch button and Terraria 1.4.6 – Crossplay Phase One will be live. So there’s no launch date to circle yet. You’ll want to watch for the submission news first.
A New Community Manager and No Halloween Contest
The post also had some smaller news. Re-Logic said it didn’t get a Halloween contest together this year. The studio does have a few contest ideas that might reach you soon, thanks to its brand new Community Manager.
The team is also looking past 1.4.6. It’s setting plans for Crossplay Phase Two, along with what comes after that. The studio says it is getting ready for the last few months of the year. It also said you should keep an eye on State of the Game and its socials for details as they arrive.
Terraria in 2026, Still Small and Still Loved
Terraria is a long way from that 2011 launch, but it hasn’t gotten any bigger in price. Steam currently lists it at $9.99 as of October 30, 2026. The game sits at a Metacritic score of 83 on PC, and the store page lists two DLC entries. Steam also lists it for Windows, macOS and Linux.
That’s a lot of game for ten dollars. It also explains why crossplay matters to so many players. A game that old has built up a lot of friend groups over the years. Some of them play on different platforms and have never shared a world.
Phase One is the first step toward changing that. Re-Logic calls it “the Crossplay era of Terraria” and says it is drawing very close. A short delay for test fixes is a small price if it means the launch goes smoothly.
For now, the date to watch is the week of November 2. That’s when Re-Logic hopes to get 1.4.6 into submission.
