I never once considered the idea of Stardew Valley even being set on Earth, let alone setting it in the 90s.
Fun(?) fact about Krobus: despite you never give them a mermaid pendant, after you and Krobus move together the Old Mariner on the beach will congratulate you and say the pendant was useful after all. So, the game itself considers them a spouse)

I’ll just share something that happened to me, during multiple Stardew Valley runs:
My first run I married Shane, I felt sad for him and thought I could maybe cheer him up by marrying him (… weird guy, has his charm but…no)
Second run I married Alex, sporty dumb jock, also an orphan? Obviously insecure but teddy bear (he just doesn’t have brains…no)
Third run I said, fuck it, let’s try something I would have chosen if I was 14, and I married Sebastian (I’m sorry but this dude is so aloof and uninterested in you as the player…no)
Fourth run I married Sam, he is the cutest, he’s naive but funny, kinda childish but his after marriage storyline is so cute. (Sam is my personal favorite)
Still have to try to marry Elliot and Harvey (Elliot is just too whimsical to me and Harvey… just shave that horrible thing on your face, ew.
Of the girls, they all seem weird and crazy, Penny would be my choice, or maybe Abigail.
Everyone else is of my book.

Fun(?) fact about Harvey! He has a rare spouce line where he says "Be careful out there! I have nightmares about your limp body being wheeled into the emergency room." Which is just horrifying.

I don't know why but I love the theory of Leah having celiacs- I mean it's not fun of course 😂but I think it's super duper cool when canon facts are never outright stated but woven into the dialogue/story as hints, just like with Sebastian just loving his mom's cooking

I love the pumpkin soup fact! Especially since Sebastian has a lot of unique dislikes/hates compared to the rest of the marriage candidates. He’s the only adult (along with Penny) who doesn’t like and actively hates every alcoholic beverage as a gift. I learned it the hard way by accidentally giving him the same beer he handed me on New Year’s Eve.

It's possible that Leah just has an intolerance to gluten instead of having celiacs. So instead of wheat being a huge deal it would, well, be about like someone with a lactose intolerance eating dairy. Unpleasant enough to want to avoid it in most cases, but it wouldn't cause her any serious harm to deal with the discomfort and enjoy a food she really loves, as long as she doesn't do it too often.

If Krobus’ hearts are low, he’ll say something about how marriage is different than he expected, and he apparently spends time in bed with you overnight. Best spouse. <3
Also, I think the lines about Yoba blessing the house with children might be a sign that Krobus doesn’t understand how humans have children, the way humans used to not have any idea how baby eels got made, and came up with magic-y explanations

Fun facts (sorry this is long):
One of Sebastian's beta designs looks like L from death note and three of them include an ear piercing. Another fact I got from the wiki is that he's possibly the only one who likes flounder, a reference to the little mermaid
Abigail's hair used to be blue and her hair clip doesn't show up in her portrait
Other than Emily, Shane also kinda mentions Yoba. See his 6 heart event where one option leads him to say he's atheist

I figured out that Krobus actually tastes like black licorice! In one of his dialogues, he mentions that while you were sleeping you nibbled him and mentioned something like "black lick or ish" and is confused as to what that means. I don't like black licorice, but I thought this fact was adorable <3

Sony wasn’t selling widely available and accessible flatscreen TV until around the 90s so this would put it at least the 90s for Stardew valleys date

the fact about emily being the only marriage candidate who talks about yoba isn't strictly true, its not a direct mention but in shane's 6 heart scene, he asks "why shouldn't i just roll off this cliff right now?" and one of the dialouge options is "because its a sin" to which shane replies "yoba? (player) you know im an atheist…"
