I also saw that Robin can build me a fish pond. And I wonder if I could fill that fish pond up with lava eels and just fish lava eels out of the the pond because that that would be a lot of money if I could make my own fish drop table of expensive fish. Like the uh messing up, bumbling my way through the game, making relationships with the other characters. Uh it’s all good. I was thinking about the writing the other when I in between sessions like last night and the developer, the author just portrays these characters in such a I don’t know reasonable, believable, like plausible way where it’s not super cringe writing because like a a lot of game devs. Oh, he’s doing soda reviews and uh writing a story slowly working on some stuff in it. Right on. Yeah, I’ll have to check some more of that stuff out. Uh, but a lot of writing in these these games ends up being pretty like cringe. Uh, I don’t know, maybe the developers don’t have a lot of life experience or the author doesn’t, but uh, I feel like some of the scenes are obviously a little over dramatic with the characters reacting, like overreacting a little bit, but uh, the relationships between the characters and it’s almost like the the author drew from real life. Um because the characters are just so believable. Like Shane being depressed in his nineto-five job or Emily trying to like actually caring about your your feelings and trying to help out on the farm before you wake up in the morning and getting some of the chores done to make your day easier. Like that stuff is uh so believably real. I see why people attach to the characters over time. You know that’s it’s a quality writing You like their stories, too? Yeah. It’s just so believable. They’re like real They’re It’s like It’s not It’s like he drew from real life, you know? or maybe it’s common archetypes, but the way the writing and the characters are portrayed is so believable that it’s I feel like in a lot of other games that try to do this indie style, uh it just ends up like being a little a little cringy like uh it comes off as trying too hard or separated from reality so much where you you aren’t sucked into the story. But this is right. This is uh pretty good, I’d say, for all the stuff I’m used to. Definitely above average. So I I’m sure that’s part of why the community is so vibrant. you know, people wouldn’t still be playing the game probably if it wasn’t a or or like have such a following, right? That combined with all the the progression and the game systems. Uh usually I have a ton of critiques. I’m like, “Oh, this this could be better. That could be better.” And like I don’t I don’t have anything like that for this game, which is a really strange place to be in where it’s like thought I’d have something to say about it, but but really it’s just all good stuff. So, uh that’s pretty good. Pretty good. If I I can’t come up with really anything that I would change, you know, obviously after you play it for a thousand hours, you just want more content, right? All the content was really good. You just want more. That’s where the mod comes into play, right? the modding community and uh all that to add extra extra content in there because you know what this guy work on this game for like eight years. So, uh the fact that he not only after having huge success, he now he’s coming out with free content, free updates and stuff like that is uh pretty cool. They make their next game some sort of uh money grab or they launch some sort of microtransaction for cosmetics or something, you know, which is uh a lot of companies do that, but good on him. This is a bad movie for these reasons.” So, I have, you know, a lot of critique, a lot of opinions for for games in that way. Um, but I can’t I don’t have anything bad to say. So, that’s kind of crazy. It’s kind I don’t have anything for this game. I don’t I try to think about it. I’m just like, nope. This soul pretty good is I wish I had something to add to the conversation, but um the only problem I really have is like sometimes I’ll accidentally use a warp totem or an item uh when I’m trying to go into a door. So, when I’m editing a video, I try to put on deconstruction stream, but I don’t know what is a mod. He’s got a bunch of mods in his Stardew Valley playthrough and what what is just like a spoiler. So, I like to come in and hang out and be part of the community, but try not to spoil too much. You know, I want to I want to have the genuine first-time experience and uh not use the wiki, which I know is a little more uncommon these days. You know, the using wikis is there’s a wiki for every game. Uh and maybe after you get stuck or something. Sure. Like it is kind of nice just to figure it out and be surprised too. I don’t I don’t know. Uh, usually watching an MMO is kind of rough if you’re not a player cuz the telegraphing is not always very good. Um, like in League of Legends though, I can you can kind of tell what’s going on a little bit. Um, it just depends on how good the animations are for the game. It’s like if you’re not a player. It’s weird being a game dev now, you know, right? because you’re you’re developing the game for your users, uh, the players of the game, but you’re also developing the game for the viewers of the users. So, you’ve got to have really clear animations and stuff. Um, it can’t be only like under it can’t be only understandable to an expert. It has to be at face value fun to watch. Now, which is a totally different it’s like a different atmosphere, right? your if your game is like a a viewer like a audience game uh like Peak. I don’t know if you guys have been watching a lot of streams, but that Peak game is uh really popular. You get a group of people and climb to the top of a mountain and help each other survive after you crash your plane. Tons of streamers are doing that. It’s a very obvious narrative to follow. You don’t have to be an expert in the game to know what’s going on. You can have a good time. Ow. And it’s nice to have a chill game because you can talk to chat, right? So, I don’t know. Like, if I play Path of Exile 2 or something, you’re like grinding. You’re worried about dying. You’re trying to go really fast. Uh, and you might I don’t know. Today we’re closing out Winter and Year 1 in our first ever blind playthrough of Stardew Valley! ❄️ I’ve got cows now (yes, I named them), I might remember to donate milk to the Community Center bundle… or not. I’ve nearly been taken out by slimes, I’ve passed out in the snow more than once, and the Pulse is still going strong.
