Stardew Valley’s “Diversity Problem”

Stardew Valley isn’t a cozy game; it never was. That’s why it’s so popular, yet for some reason, no other gaming company can understand its appeal. This video explores why the game remains in the top 10 games played to this day, why its formula resonates with all players, and the controversy surrounding ConcernedApe being criticized for not making changes to cater to the “modern” audience.

  1. Wait…which one is it? 12:17 or 13:29. In the foremost you mention how the community doesn't care about these types, but in the latter you address how the community is a bunch of these types, so much so that everyone walks on eggshells and one guy even lost his channel. I'm confusion XD

  2. Still wish nexus mods hadn't taken away the mod that changes Maru and Demetrius to being White.

There will be no coal burning in my Stardew Valley save file, except for the furnaces.

  3. 6:19 – Is that an actual screenshot from a game? If so, which one?

Their pronouns don't make sense. "He/they"???

"He's in the kitchen, you can talk to they if you want."

    Are they RTDD?

  4. Eric relaxed the gender restrictions on clothing and facial hair,
but hopefully that's as far as he goes, because the alphabets are always mad.
    (Figuratively and literally)

  5. Personally, my only problem with the game is Leah's art sculptures,
based on what she's about, I figured she would have nature-like art,
but it looks more akin to modern art instead. (yuck lol)

  6. Man…Ultima VII, Harvest Moon…

    Leisure Suit Larry?!

Its like you had my childhood.

I dont think these people understand how much damage they have done to games. For every dude like concerned ape, there probably hundred of others that go "nah…not worth it" and just make a mod for skyrim or decide to get into something non creative instead.

These people still talk like "Harvest Moon was aight…but not as good as it is now!!" When its the only real classic game. Theres no analog to FFVII (PS1/PC) vs. FFI (though I loved that game) in Harvest Moon. People remember that game.

Stardew was a shock. Hell my best friend started his own farm (probably out of love for the game) and still plays it!

These people (the fanatics) act like locusts…they see something beautiful and just want to ravage it, even though no one has anything against them, they just dont want to sit around making games for people they dont understand so they can run over by them anyway. They can make their own games…and their fanaticism ruins those games too

Who wants to play games with people you have to walk on eggshells around and who want to destroy you over any made up perceived slight?

Anyway…over 9000 lines post…but of all the youtubers that talk about this stuff, you are the closest to me…this is what games I loved…why, and how I feel about a lot of things in games. Thanks for giving it a voice out there

  7. I still haven't bought Stardew Valley. I was interested in getting it, but for the past few years, I got burned by farming sims time and time again. Story of Seasons was shallow and lifeless, Rune Factory got screwed by localizers bullying the actual dev team into gay compliance, and the few farming sim one-offs I tried all felt bad to play or were just ugly to look at. For how much farming RPG's exploded onto the scene, very few of them actually left a positive impression on me, and I had grown tired of subjecting myself to them.
But this is getting me interested in Stardew Valley again. Thanks for your effort, Vee!

  8. 06:52 I've never heard of Cattle Country and I hate woke shit, but I just want to point out the idea that cowboys belong in the desert is insane. Also, Cowboys' main job is to herd cattle (usually for a ranch, which is ostensibly like a farm), not to dig for gold or hunt. This was hands down the funniest part of this video 🤣😂🤣😂.

  9. What those freaks fail to understand is that Stardew Valley IS a diverse game. There is a biracial couple in the game that has a mixed daughter, the women aren't all bimbos who talk about boys and make-up (and the one that is has a completely different side to her once you get to know her) also you mentioned Alex when it came to his backstory but another thing that game tackles about him is sexuality. Even though everyone is player-sexual Alex and his family have many special dialogues about his homosexuality. Alex struggles with it clearly due to his backstory and his grandfather actually stops being homophobic and tells you it straight to your face if you date Alex as a man. I think these "Cozy gamers" just have no media literacy or they don't even care.

  10. My thing is: if you have an issue with a game that is something small such as gender or character appearance: just create / download a mod… Don't attack the creators 😅

Also why I also say create: because it takes so much work to make a mod that it gives you a brief glimpse of how much effort goes into making a game. It's not just a little slider/ option that you drag and drop into the game

  11. so damn accurate, they need stop trying to make games that please the people that wont buy them anyway, and if they try to cancel you tell them to f off.

  12. When i play a game i dont give a shit about who im playing as. As long as the game is good.
Currently playing through Lies of P, with that scrawny ass feminine boy character, but i couldn't care less cause the game rocks.

  13. Yeah, this is the absolute best approach to the "diversity issue". Don't talk to these people, don't answer, don't comment, don't acknowledge their existence. If they're not male or female, they're non-existent.
