I would like to argue that it still pretty much is melee, since you need to be up close and personal to do maximum damage, which is the core of what melee is.
To be fair for pre hardmode, the sword from legendary sword shrine and starfury are arguably not melee, both deal 2x their melee damage with their projectiles…but yes you could hit with both but still pure melee is effectively only 1/3rd of their damage output
Yea I understand where people get mana less mage weapons from, but I feel like melee could be tweaked to make it favor true melee more and make a combo system, like a projectile every 3rd swing or something
Makes sense. Immedietly one of the mech bosses is the twins, and they’re extremely difficult for true melee because of the lack of range. And after that, there is still multiple bosses that you need range for (Moon Lord, Empress of Light, etc)
technically, some people argue that you deal more damage if you get up close, but like… the dps you lose for staying at range is really not much, and definitely not enough to justify risking so much contact damage. most players are never gonna play "true melee" even if they lose out on a little dps for it, and that's the problem, there is almost zero punishment for staying long range with melee

Hardmode is based on outranging bosses so there's nothing they can do. Nerfing melee weapons basically gonna kill melee class, so I think they just need to nerd melee armor bcz the weapons deal enough damage and have enough range for that much defense
It's kinda unique for a melee class to be this absurd, that's why i love it, on other games it's mostly a weak generic class but here you summon stars from the heavens, altrought melee is also called warrior (By it's emblem) so it's not a obligatory thing for the class to be true melee.
I’ve been saying this for years. Melee has the best parts of ranger/mage, with none of their downsides, and a heaping pile of defense to boot. You want to play Terraria on easy mode, Melee’s the route for you. You’re also spoonfed weapons, essentially being handed a new melee weapon after pretty much any event/boss. Plus you get the Zenith, which is absurdly strong and no other class gets a Zenith type weapon. Relogic’s bias is showing
the problem with people wanting to have true melee is that the way the game progress the bosses progress as well not just stat wise, unless you can probably double the current max hp and buff defense and buff potion cd why even go full melee
I just don't think Terraria is balanced with true melee taken into account, it'd be hard af for devs to create the bosses in a way that balances both ranged gameplay and true melee gameplay (I mean there's a reason using true melee is considered a challenge) so I think they just went with the easier path of giving melee range

Im making stuff for a mod and im trying to add some true melee weapon for later game
After the rework in 1.4.4 is definitely more melee then it was before but I think it still needs a lot of work to be true melee

They should just make the swords bigger and make a item you can equip to get ranged features for the swords

Some of range, a little bit of magic and the last one… Some melee, relogic don't take care at al for summoner

tbh, there are many swordmaster characters in fantasy games like terraria that utilize projectiles to deal damage
but yeah, it's better called the warrior class
