FUN FACT: Obsidian was used by the Aztecs in the form of blades of a club. While they weren't durable that was the point, they were meant to be easily replaceable and would break off inside enemies. So if they survived the battle they would most likely parish to infection.

Thats why you need a diamond pic because diamonds as tools would be terrible because diamonds are extremely brittle
