  1. It might be a part of the fact that there's definitely a war going on currently, and Poppies sorta represent the peace afterwards. Heck, Kent exists, and his speech has a lot to do with the war

  2. Poppies apparently wither pretty quickly once picked, so maybe that’s part of it, you would essentially be giving the villagers a sad bare stem and not the pretty flower. Might also be related to the symbolism of the poppy, and the war that I remember hearing was implied to be happening or at least just recently happened.
Doesn’t exactly explain Penny though (I’m still pretty new to stardew, so I’m not completely familiar with the npcs characterizations, so I might just not be aware of something about Penny or the others that would make this a perfect explanation or completely break it)

  3. I want to know why they (at best) are neutral towards bread or (at worst) hate it. Other than my freak of a brother, my whole family loves bread (it’s basically guaranteed we’ll order it as an appetizer at restaurants) and it’s actually the first thing I ever baked from scratch

  4. Flander's fields is a much more poignant and tragic theory than mine, which was that stardew valley is at the heart of a drug smuggling ring and opioids have taken countless loved ones

  5. Joja Cola is also a universal hate (apart from Sam and Pam), raising the questions of how Joja stays in business and why Gus bought a Joja Cola vending machine

  6. Everyone else in these comments goes so in depth but i just thought it's because they're common and arent usually flowers you'd display. They grow commonly next to roads here and the petals are fragile🤷‍♀️ just doesnt make for a great gift

  7. It could be due to the fact that most colors of poppies have links to war in flower language. Given the fact that an ongoing war plays a narrative plot point in certain characters' stories, it could be seen as a bitter reminder.

  8. Poppies not only represent the post-war peace, but also to remember fallen soldiers. Primarily, red poppies are symbolism for soldiers bleeding out in a warfield.

  9. AAAAH B!! i watch this lore and theory channel called SodorArt and they tackle this exact topic along with a whole lotta others!!! I reccomend it!!!

  10. Poppy is the California state flower. Stardew Valley npcs are probably meant to hate that you plucked a state protected flower. Tourist and other outsiders damaged them during superblooms by stomping all over them just to get a picture of them and residents didn't like that. Just my theory lol

  11. Excerpt of In Flanders Field by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing; fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, snd now we lie,
    In Flanders fields.

It's not often felt ingame aside from interactions with Kent, but I feel that the wind of war, and the bitterness and sadness that comes with it with it, does blow through the valley.

  12. The answer is scientifically, physically, chemically, geological, in earth science, human science, plant science, as well as aircraft and school science, the sure and best answer is (i don't know)
