Have We Been Playing Ranger the Wrong Way?

Terraria’s ranger gets short sold by people who don’t use many of the interesting weapons it offers, resulting in various potential play styles and strategies. But since everyone keeps playing it the wrong we it’s gotten a bad wrap so today I’m going to show that Terraria’s ranger is better and more interesting than people think it is.

  1. pewmatic horn is honestly a good weapon against queen bee, it’s what i used my first mastermode playthrough, was using guns only for a while and the mini shark just couldn’t get past her defense

  2. ranger is probably my favorite class and that's precisely because of its variety. so many of these weapons are really cool to play around with and every run you can use different weapons than last time. alongside the more common options i've used bone javelins, the snowball cannon, the qbs, the dart weapons, the onyx blaster, the nail gun and stynger, the xenopopper, the marrow, and so much more. really a fun class if you actually try to use something you haven't every time you go through it

  3. I first read the title as "Here, we play ranger the wrong way". Always funny how when people do some kind of challenge run, literally everything else spawns except what you want. There really is just so much that can be done post Plantera and even post Golem but doesn't seem to fit because unless you go out of your way to do the events and all you can almost just speed run straight to Moonlord.

  4. Shroomite, in my experience, is ONLY good in multiplayer, and only when someone else is taking all the aggro the whole time. Then you can safely sit far away (especially with sniper scope) and just keep making shots free from harm. It's really good *as support fire*. In singleplayer, it is impossible to play this way since you're the only player around.
    Plus with loadouts, you can just swap to shroomite when you know you can sit still and make shots, then swap back to anything else for primary fighting. It becomes a dedicated sniper loadout with weapon of choice. Asking someone to play at that level is a bit advanced, though. Then again, each class can benefit from loadouts.

  5. Regarding the Planterra summon, I think it would be neat to have some sort of seed that you can plant to grow the Planterra bulb. Maybe have a new alchemy type plant (like blink root) start growing in the jungle and you craft that together with chlorophite to make a "mysterious bulb". When planted on mud or jungle grass in the jungle it would grow to the normal bulb.

  6. Deerclops is actually completely arena reliant (and a little RNG, AS YOU CAN GET PUNISHED FOR PLAYING THE RIGHT WAY)

    also SANDGUN IS BUFFED BY CORRUPT SAND, Use some vile powder to farm ammo 😂

  7. Honestly it's melee with the most limited range of options, like you're only ever going to have 2 or 3 weapons that you're using in a fight, and that's purely dependant on the weapons' ranges.

  8. To stay in theme with the video I'm gonna say you fought Deerclops wrong: The best way to fight Deerclops is by flattening about a screen worth of area (max zoom out) and just run under it back and forth as Deerclops hitbox is actually high enough for you to run under it. No multiple layers of platform, or weird plans to get it off the ground. Just solid floor and maybe the shield of chuthulu to help accelerate to max speed but that too is a bit of a gamble as if you dash to close in the direction of Deerclops you will bounce off the hitbox instead of passing under it.

  9. The invis from shroomite is meant to be used in multiplayer imo, there it can work great especially if you have a tank with the accessory that pulls aggro, but yeah singleplayer ranger is a struggle

  10. I still dont know where in the progression we are supposed to loot the underground dessert. The enemies are very strong, but the weapons you get from it are kinda meh. But the uttility you loot from it are pretty good.

  11. Two minutes in, already 4 misconceptions:

    – mage's options are only limited specifically pre-boss;

    – blood rain bow is neither very inconsistent nor overly grindy, specially for terraria's standards. What you could say is that it isn't worth fishing in a blood moon for a trash bow, but using trash unique weapons is your entire video;

    – WoS is still worth keeping for a little while after the gem staves, because of the debuff, low mana cost and upgrade to wand of frosting;

    – Anyone that does a darts only playthrough will go for the blowpipe, obviously.

    Evidence shows one of four things: your scripts are AI generated, you overuse bad faith arguments in order to sell your bad ideas, you do these on purpose to generate more comments, or all your opinions genuinelly are this bad.
