Hi Reddit! I’m Isaac, Founder/CEO of Luduvo. We’re building a user-generated content gaming platform as an alternative to Roblox.
There’s been a lot of talk lately about how disconnected Roblox feels from its community, and there really isn’t a clear answer whenever someone asks for an alternative. Back in August, we decided to try building the platform people have been asking for.
Since then we’ve gotten a good chunk of our MVP done and secured $40k in angel funding with a team of four. We’re developing a custom engine supporting Windows, Linux and hopefully MacOS by launch.
We have a 85/15 revenue split for developers. All email-verified users will be able to publish and monetize games through multiple means at launch. We also plan to release a UGC cosmetic program ~1-2 months after launch through an invite-only program of trusted creators. Sadly, we will not have a developer exchange program by launch as that is not financially viable; however, that is a long-term goal at our company.
I as a huge player of EToH and ToH have managed to bring a Roblox-like movement system to Luduvo for general gameplay fluidity and to ensure the best experience of our players. This is an issue we've noticed with other competitors acting as a Roblox alternative: their movement systems suck. We have a big emphasis on user-experience and don't plan to compromise at all.
Our studio editor has UI support, Lua scripting support, physics, building tools (including imports of 3D meshes), and many QoL features to ensure the best experience for our developers. You will not be able to port Roblox games directly into our Studio editor, however, by launch, developers should be able to replicate Roblox games on Luduvo. We're not sure on what else to say about this subject without getting too boring so feel free to ask us questions on this reddit post and/or our Discord server!
Lastly, as for our take on moderating, we don't agree with infringing on users personal privacy. However, we do believe in taking smart approaches to ensure the safety of players. We have custom-built systems in place comparable to some of the best tools on the market, from chatting, to game uploads: we will take care of things efficiently. Another thing to note is that we will never give up on manual moderating policies due to our belief of human intervention on such serious subjects. As someone who has personally investigated disgusting flaws on platforms like Roblox as well as filing multiple reports to NCMEC and Roblox directly, I am disappointed in the lack of action and will not let such an issue plague our platform. Transparency is key to everything.
It will take awhile to make a good reputation. But it only takes a moment to have a bad one. And it will be extremely difficult to get a good reputation from a bad reputation. This exact philosophy is something we hold near and dear to our hearts as developers, and that's why we are committed to user-first design and constant iteration based on what our users actually want, not what looks best on a bank balance nor what pleases existing and potential investors.
There's a lot of other things to mention on all our subjects, from moderating, to community, to economy, to our studio and client: however we do not want to bloat the post more than it already has. So feel free to ask questions here or even at our Discord server. We're more than happy to answer any serious questions!
Here’s the thing though: We can only take Luduvo so far without an actual community of players who want what we’re making. We’re looking for people to help shape what this platform becomes. If you’re interested in being part of something built from the ground up, check out luduvo.com and join our Discord. We’re very active there, posting updates and talking openly with everyone
Thanks for reading.
