If I were you I would try to ditch the log support beams and try for a more cylindrical design just because that would appear more natural and realistic. Then work on making either stripes with whatever colored blocks you may have, or a gradient that turns lighter on the way up.
Take my advice with a grain of salt though, I wouldn’t consider myself the best builder either.
