This is also really good on mobile because when you get fishing treasure chests if you’re inventory if full you can’t throw items out of your inventory so you have to trash an item.
I only upgrade it so it matches the rest if my stuff, that's a few years in to things, though. Of course, I have chests everywhere, early game, so I don't have to throw things away too often.
After everything else is upgraded and you have plenty of bars and money, there's no reason not to upgrade the trash can. And it remains available while being upgraded, so you dont have to worry about that. Its nice to get a little something on those long dungeon runs, when you have to ditch a ton of slime or whatever.

honestly I get this like year 3 or something when I can't upgrade anything else anymore
I upgraded it once I had a few million gold and nothing to spend it on
I do it! When you're in the mines a lot super late game trashing trinkets you definitely get a decent amount of money!

The only good thing abt this is that it doesn’t make the trash can out of service when you upgrade it

Yeah the bin upgrade is very much a 2/3 of the way to perfection upgrade
Do I need it? No.
Do I want the aesthetic? Yes, absolutely.

I think mine is still gold? That's more of a I forgot you could upgrade it and didn't bring bars with me more than anything else.
The trinkets in the mines give so much!! They're my favorite things to trash once I have them all
